Nantwich Marina - literally 1/2 mile before the official school stop. I went there last week to check it out. Nice little cafe and nice grub.

The last official stop is a pub which is 25 miles from the finish - only downside from memory was the wait to get served and the lack of available food left. There is a co-op type place about a mile before that stop though.

I agree with your strategy too - Foss to confirm.

That all sounds good to me :hyper:

Depends on your definition of "nearby" I'll be riding there - I live about 6 miles away from the start point. It's on my commute route so I know the way there too, don't want to increase my record of getting people lost. No problem leaving the car outside.

Thanks for the offer - but it's a bit further than I was thinking. Particularly as I'm leaving home at 4.30  and collecting oldfatfool at 5

Looking at the map I'll come off the M60 at J.5 and probably park the car in Northenden - on a side street. Hopefully that's not too bad an area and about a mile from the meeting point.

Any sign of CC jerseys yet?

This sounds right.

Co-op is the best option on the route after the Nantwich Marina. The pub is crammed usually. This sounds a good option as I won't need to carry the contents of a small supermarket in my pockets.

Down side ? Aiming for sub six hour time (16.67 mph) - Plus side, easily achievable in a group, especially if we stick together - cohesion and team work - even if it means me and 400bhp on the front with a can of Skol dangling on the front for Skolly......

One more to join to the front. I had other things on this weekend, but I'd rather play on my franken-bike.

400bhp

Guru
There's 4 people coming along that don't post here too-I know 2 of them & I understand a couple of them should be able to share some of the pacemaking.

How many do we have now?

Can we clear up the ride pace please, are we aiming for 6 hours including stops and riding at a steady 20 mph (ie 5 hours ride time) or are we aiming to be riding 6 hours + cafe stops(the original 16.8mph)

My understanding is that we are aiming for the latter, so a riding time of 6hrs, or under, with stop times added on to that (so potentially a 9hr ride if we have all three courses and coffee and cigars :hungry:)

We will be working as a bunch doing a steady 20 mph

Jolly good Fossy had me worried, thought I might have to get out and do some training for a minute.

To achieve an average of around 16-17mph we will need to spend quite a bit of time travelling at or above 20mph. Thats the way averages work, to make up for the slower sections where it is uphill or congested you will have to work harder when the road is clearer and level/downhill! from a mathematical point of view there are 3 definitions of average that I am aware of, the mean, the median and the mode. We are working to the mean and generaly this is the accepted form of average if you do not specify the other. Some people will say there typical average speed is xxmph if that is the speed they usually cruise along at (the mode) but that is an inflation of the truth and their mean speed would probably be a few mph less than they are suggesting.

Sorry for the boring stuff there, I just drifted off for a moment

Seriously having time to think about this, specially after doing 43miles on Sunday, it really is a big ask to keep that kind of pace (even hanging on the back), most miles I've ever done this year is 67 back in June, it all sounded well and good and wanted to do a 100miler, but realistically, doubt I'd be able to keep that pace up for that kind of mileage...so in the words of Dragon's Den...I'm out...but I do wish you all have fun and have a good ride
