If you can scrape together a little more, look at some of the Easton range. They are particularly light and strong.

The Ultegras can't be better for weight and value...plus they are a quality pair of wheels. Aksiums are heavy......equal to Shimano WH500 wheels at £70 a pair.
Scott were even put the Ultegra wheels on their £1800 CR1 Pro bike (albeit black ones called RS601's IIRC) until they changed to Aksiums for some reason.....(probably to save money).
Aksiums are good wheels....but you'd be going sideways rather than forward in terms of upgrade.
The Michelin tyres are also very good....either would be great and benefit you loads.
£250 will get you a good weight reduction and make your bike ride a whole lot better.....so stick with your current bike and invest in the wheels.

You beat me to it Dom
The Eastons are strong, light and always get good reviews.

Far a basic pretty-looking wheel it's a good deal, but don't be fooled by the looks, they're heavy...BUT they're pretty strong too and a worthy upgrade over some very cheap n' cheerful wheelsets put on a lot of low-end bikes these daysIf you're looking for zippier performance then wheelweight is a major factor, the heavier the wheel, the more you have to accelerate.

The CR1 Pro uses (and always has had) Mavic Ksyriums.

That is a good wheelset, but reasonably old, so don't go mad bidding on them. Also, the statement "Excellent Condition showing near true" is a little worrying. Might be worth asking how out of true they are?
