Are you turning it the right way? its a reverse thread on the drive side, clock ways to unscrew.

Yeah, got my son in to help and the spike from a washing line for additional leverage and both were sorted in minutes

Just put the new cups in, trying to find the instructions for the cranks again.

Doh. Online ref was wrong, had to go back and get a 14mm...and they only had star not hex so I'm hoping it won't slip.
