we as a family go through toilet seats at the rate of on average 3 a year ?

should we be buying a more expensive one or what , the last few have been from good old wilkinsons and the metal rod has come un attached from the metal disc .

anybody else comment

Well this weekend we replaced the upstairs loo seat with another Bemis seat as the pads had collapsed where it sits on the rim .

Went for a soft closing model .

I like to shut the lid. Prefer to sit to pee....... I'm fully in touch with my female side! Love the soft closing system but when I visit my sister visits to the loo often end with a terrible crash as their house doesn't have them.

Was the one you replaced plastic? Not sue if the plastic seat pads are replaceable or not but the ones for wooden seats are.
Now the replaced one was the compressed wood type I couldn't see how to get the pads out .

But then it had also taken on a very distressed look about it .

Nothing wrong with sitting to pee it's so much easier .

Agree re soft closing a whole 29 seconds of watching the lid go down

like bike fit - its all in the fitting - get it lined up properly and it will last for years.

We used to go through about 1 a year. I found the problem was that my ex wasn't sitting on it squarely; she'd sit on it from the side and eventually the amount of play got more and more. If you sit on them properly there needn't be a problem.

I think it also doesn't help if your loo roll holder is to the side (or behind you), as this makes a person scoot round all the time and putting a lot of lateral strain on the hinge fixings

Not as much fun though ^_^. Think of all the games you can have while enjoying a standing pee.

Yes, the most fun "game" in this house is the, Lie on the floor with an ear pressed into the loo while you clean round the sides and back! In reality the room is small, the end where the loo is sited is only just big enough for my elbows! So it's better to sit, less over spray. I'd include a photo but might risk banishment?

I've had the same loo seat for 30 years now, and still good as new ^_^.
I suppose it helps that I live alone so it gets lighter use than most, and my aim is straight!
It's a good quality wooden thing, much more comfortable than these horrible thin plastic seats found these days. No wonder I prefer to do my business at home :okay:.

As long as you clean up the overspray - worst job I had was cleaning bogs when all male groups stayed in the accommodation.

Why didn't you fit a home urinal like the one I've pictured in my post? I'm going to have one in my new workshop for my convenience (sorry) and that of my visitors as most will be male cyclists I reckon.

They are easy enough to fit as a DIY project.
