I wonder if anyone (Merseytravel) has ever looked at adding cycle provision into 'Central Avenue' below the traffic deck of the Queesway tunnel?

At the QE2 bridge and tunnel, cyclists are taken across in patrol vehicles free of charge. I've not done this myself, as I prefer to use the Tilbury ferry. I would approach the operators and ask if this would be possible.

Ideally you'd want them to offer some sort of shuttle service. Perhaps half hour intervals at rush hour, a mini bus with a trailer shuttles you and your bike through. You don't hold up traffic and pay a nominal 50p or something to cover fuel costs?

Not a bad suggestion, but whoever you ask will want to know what the demand is. Even if you managed to get a few crossings a day it would be better than nothing. If someone missed the mini bus they could go and get the train/ferry.

The ferry sounds like fun anyway.

That may have been what I was referring to above, I didn't know it was called Central Avenue until now  There was some talk about it anyway, wasn't even sure which tunnel was under discussion at the time (was years ago).

The ferry is great fun! I took my boy on the river cruise version over the summer, and I may be a little biased, but the Liverpool waterfront skyline really is fantastic, especially on a nice sunny day - one of the most iconic around. I think to this particular employee however the issue was always to do with the cost rather than the scenery/enjoyment value.

From the general responses, I would say it's definitely worth an email.

The ferry is fun. The few times I've had reason to commute either way, I've used the ferry. It's a limited service in the mornings and after 9 you have the full cruise with loudspeaker commentary and history of the waterfront. I'd recommend it for anyone who hasn't done it. It can be rough though, rough enough not to be tempted by that flapjack and coffee. it's also fairly easy and pleasant to approach the ferry, far less so for the tunnels with the possible exception of the older Kingsway tunnel but the Queensway is a far more major road approach, not pleasant on a bike unless they opened up some access roads but I digress.
