I use an RSP RX480 (USB rechargeable) for night riding, and a One23 cheap AA handlebar mounted flasher to be seen by.

I also have some older RSP Asteri3 lamps which I still use as daytime flashers in bad weather, although the batteries are past their best after a few years of use.

Ye I've been thinking about doing that if I got one of the similar lights. Coupled with a hood and if you were struggling a tiny bit of black tape at the very top of the lens, you could be onto a winner ala Philips safe ride with decent battery life
I'll have to experiment and take pics

Ordered this set today: http://www.candb-seen.co.uk/bikehead-lights/commuter-kit.html

Coming home a week or so ago,it was already getting borderline re:light requirement. Two week night club runs to consider, anything could happen that could result in running out of daylight.
Last night got in at 10:15pm after a 4 hour club ride. Just had a cheapo front light as i thought i would be okay. Near pitch darkness on back roads and dodgy descents! Bad planning. Won't be caught out next week.

Neither will I  I needed lights on sunday AFTERNOON! Very dark, overcast and pishing it down with crap visibility. Luckily the 4 of us who ride to club meeting point together, all live less than a mile apart and we were on the only cycle path in the town for the worst of it (and that was towards home)

Even resorted to mudguards on my race bike today

Sounds like the end of summer.
