Lights can also be to bright. Being some front lights are intended for off roading and some rear lights to bright for club bunch cycling :-D

Agreed on rear lights - I was tempted by fitting a pair of magicshine rears while DX had them but plumped for 2 1 watt Smarts instead (The Smart is the most versatile for mounting for my needs - plus thatnks to the numerous discarded (water ingress) smart lights I have had, I have more than enough brackets for bike, trike & trailer)

However I don't see how a front light can be too bright unless it cannot be angled down - if it's creating a pool of light immediately in front of your wheel and not aimed to dazzle

Smart, Blackburn Mars 4.0, and my trusty Knog Bullfrog & Dealextreme torch at the front.

Until I build my Dynohub wheel, of course.

Given the heart shape of the light, I reckon Fossy has some sort of Care Bear/Hello Kitty themed rear light on there.

ABSOLUTELY! I was leaving work on Tuesday morning in the early twilight and riding down Dialstone lane in Stockport when I met 2 cyclists coming the other way with presumably matching industrial power flashing front lights. Even though it was getting half light they were still painfully bright (and I am not sensitive about such things) and if it had still been properly dark they would have destroyed any chance of seeing anything except the flashing lights and that is very dangerous for the cyclists and evryone around them.

I held off making a comment as I passed and afterwards regretted not saying anything but if it is anyone on here please take note!!!

Pavement cycle ninjas !

This week i am taking a different route home through the local town as i am on nights and there is hardly any traffic at 6.30 am so i vary my route from the normal "dodge the cow pat " road .

I see around 5-6 every morning in ninja black with no lights and most of them are on the pavement, its not so much the pavement riding as the " You mean you cant afford a tenner for some lights on that bike?" thats make me laugh.
Overtook a guy who works at the same place and i did not even see he was there till i was about 30 foot behind him , he got a friendly warning along the lines of someones going to run you over if you don`t get some lights .

The highlight of the day was the guy on a hardtail who decided to try and race me up the hill, yes i know i am on a roadie but its got about another 20llbs of stuff on so i reckon we are even ...Untill he gives up after about 50 yards ;)

Slightly disappointed with my Blackburn Flea front light today. Up til now it's been my favourite purchase - very bright, and tiny, fitting easily on an overcrowded handlebar.

However - it estimated that the battery life on flashing mode will last 5 hours. It has three colours to tell yo how much battery life is left - green for over 75%, orange for 25% to 75%, and red for 25%. Doing the maths, that should mean that when the indicator goes red, you have over an hour, right?

Nope. It went red for me about five minutes into my commute today, and less than ten minutes later had died completely. Additionally, as soon as it went red it lost loads of power and went really dim. I went the final few miles home after midnight with no front light.

If anyone has one, I recommend recharging it not long after it's turned Amber. I don't want to recharge it too early, as I'm afraid that'll cause the battery to lose it's zero point (do they still do that?).
