if it does what you need it to do, that's fine.

i'm not at all worried that mine can't launch the space shuttle or control the lhc, it does what i need and that's all that counts. i do need it to be a macintosh, for various reasons. if a £300 laptop from aldi does it for you, chapeau.

Yes, that was my point! I'll keep it until it no longer does what I need, and then buy a new one. It's a mystery to me why people buy such powerful machines when all they do is surf the web.

Or, in the case of Macs, why people spend thousands of pounds on kit that has very limited ability to do any actual work, but looks like it is some kind of modern artwork. I sometimes wonder if these people actually have real jobs? ;) I guess Macs are mainly used by inclusion managers and their ilk.

Just because you don't earn enough to be able to buy one no need to get all pissy, dom.

macs are like park tools. there are cheaper things that do the same job, but in the long run the professional wants professional equipment, which will save money in the long run by not having to replace the cheap tools every so often.

no, apple are like having a 11/16ths of an inch allen key, rather than standard sizes like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8mm and 1/8", 1/4", 1/2", etc.

Considering Bill Gates was working for Stephen Jobs when he stole the windows operating system, consequently making a helluvalotta money in the process! It's very difficult to have 'love' for windows.

People spend thousands of pounds on this kit for it's ability to out-perform Windows with many 'proffessional' programs, especially in the design industry, anybody using both Windows and Mac will have noticed that Windows is getting more and more like Mac OS with every OS they release. for this reason i will use PC when i have to (parametric modelling etc) but for anything else give me Apple Macs any day.

And lets thank our lucky stars that Jonathan Ive left Tangerine and turned Macs into "works of art" (anyone noticed how dell are now doing this)?

So i guess what I'm saying is +1 for the Mac camp! (typed from my 'INFI'-dell )

I sincerely hope this is a piss take? If not, you are one seriously deluded individual!

It's no skin off my nose though, if you can afford to shell out thousands on sub-standard kit that's only purpose is to sit there and look pretty then you go right ahead and do just that. I have used both systems and am more than happy to confirm that Macs are dire in both use and operation. Not only are they far slower than the equivalently specced PC but they charge upwards of four times the price in to the bargain.

As for calling them "professional" in any way, this is just a sick joke pal. I have worked in some of the most demanding environments imaginable and the only time I have ever come across a mac in actual use it has been used on its side as a monitor stand! Seriously mate, you need to get a life. Move on. Get over this childish phase.
