How the hell do you use the hoods on that thing?

I rode my first competitive race on them this weekend at the same Battle on the Beach that these elite racers won, I'm just a mere mortal rider but this the bars and bike really helped me into 120th out of 600 racers and 400+ lycra clad racers wanting a good place. so I'm happy with 120th being on the wrong side of 47.

Most of the time I ride on the hoods and if needed all 4 fingers can be used to brake, on the drops they are so comfy especially with the flat section below the hoods pointing down at around 45 degree.
