nice. Jonesy seems to have woken up for the evening. I fear all this excitement may be too much for a ghoulish old lady.

Anyway, back to the topic.

There's something too sacred cowlike about the Clash. I mean, they had their moments, but they do seem to attract the most ludicrous devotion.

Perhaps next years X-Factor should have a cover of Daddy Was A Bankrobber as the prize? Guaranteed Christmas No1....;)

I thought they were overrated in their day. Mate used to play them remorselessly and SLF, who I thought were better.

I just googled SLF, they're still going ;)

The Clash were over-rated, a few good songs but that's about it.

SLF on t'other hand were great. Alternative Ulster and Suspect Device especially.

Youtube's great. I've just been listening to them again. Got to admit they sounded better when I was pogoing around in a dingy club than they do tonight ;) but they could play.

And while I was looking, I had a quick listen to Sham69 Borstal Breakout. Bit showy though, Sham69.

hersham boys was probably the most invigorating song for a 5 year old punk. I'd say it is the best punk song ever (although proper punks laugh at sham 69)

Their first album had 2 good songs, white riot and janey jones,

If I see someone listening to a whole clash album, then I instantly mistrust them as they are going to be a bit holier than thou - or a bit thick.

And if I see someone dismiss the first Clash album as having "2 good songs", then I instantly think, he should not pontificate on music as he clearly knows nothing and is not to be trusted to speak about it. Head the ball.

And again! What a tube! Hersham Boys the best punk song ever?

"They call us the cockney cowboys" is one of the lyrics of "the best punk song ever"? Hersham? Cockney? You're on a wind-up lad.
