If you are feeling really generous, there is a site called 'Freecycle'.
Goods have to be legit, you give them away for nothing and must be suitable for their cause. So far I've got rid of a captains bed, a single bed and a no name bike. The feel good factor is that most people who are looking on this site are at the real bottom of the pile (that, by the way, is not meant as a disparaging remark) so you do someone a favour.

Freecycle has "local pages" so you can just deal with people in your immediate area.
