I think it's down to bone idle laziness for the most part.

If people really want to do it then for the most part they'll just do it. Those that don't make excuses.

I think you've just described my 2024. Must get back into the habit, and the saddle, in 2025.

Incidentally, I haven't really noticed any change in the number of commuters round here. Perhaps see two or three bikes each morning and the same in the evening and that hasn't changed much. It isn't really commuting territory.

I go the same route to work that I did just over ten years ago. I remember seeing quite a few bikes on the way into work certainly going into central London. Might be time of year but I am lucky most days if I see another cyclist, I go near to at least three train stations going into work dont even see anyone riding to the station anymore.

Very variable on any given day but I think much the same number overall. If they count as commuters there's a notable numbers of students riding the university corridor during term time.

Here in the glorious SE East of Londonshire, there used to be a huge amount of commuters pre-covid. That dropped quite a bit over the preceding couple of years but now seems to be back near to what it was.
A lot of regulars I used to see pre-covid are gone, seeing only a few, being replaced by a whole batch of new cycle commuters.
There's a large amount of Lime bike riders now too.

Big shed today there were 3 other bikes , 2 were e bikes and one hard tail.in summer it's normally pretty full

Shed's been empty of my bike as I am broken... boooo. The bike shed is within the works multi-story car park. I hobble past it every day, and need to get the lift for a floor where the 'van' is parked. I'd still rather cycle, than sit in a very nice luxurious van driving to work.

I get fed up sitting in a box on wheels, being cut up burning wages, would much rather be on two wheels know exactly where you are coming from.

It was a maybe 18 months ago I noticed a stark drop off in commuters on the Morecambe to Lancaster Greenway at 5 pm before that it was a constant weave between everyone now you can go the whole length with just a handful of cyclists sometimes, in winter it can feel a bit intimidating there's so few around, interestingly pedestrian numbers are about the same, I've been doing this route 17years never seen it drop like this before, I guess it will bounce back at some point.
