Thanks MattMM, it would be a good run on a nice day, I was just a bit unfortunate with the weather in the early part of the day:rain:One or two things I would say is that there are two or three sets of roadworks between Darvel and Strathaven, and the timing on the last one didn't really take account of cyclists, certainly not old fat ones! The roads between Jackton and Strathaven used to be quite good but are really badly chopped up now - a lot to do with the works associated with the Whitelees Windfarm.
There isn't an easy way out of Stewarton, as it sits in a hollow, but a lot of the unclassified roads in the area of Stewarton, Fenwick,Galston, and Kilmaurs are in excellent condition and well worth exploring.
I ride a blue and white Carrera Virtuoso, so if you me, please do give me a shout.....always looking for an excuse for a breather:thumbsup:

So did the Galston run this morning, just a there and back job from the Mearns, 30 miles all in. Great wee road is the A719, recalled your Loudon Castle sign sheltering antics as I rode past, and peched back up past it on way back. Didn't even get my stride broken by the sneaky wee 10% er at Waterside, which for a 2 month cycling newbie I was chuffed at. Weather was great, dry chilly and not too windy, just waiting for the predicted snowy Armageddon to hit as per those nice BBC forecasts.

 horizontal buckets, that's brilliant!

It started snowing very heavily mid-afternoon out in Midlothian, with about 5 cm lying at the office ...
For once, I managed to leave the office before it got dark (just after 5pm:wahhey:) , ice tyres going a great job on the snow (even on a wee steep-ish downhill bit - did go rather slowly though:smile:), and then the slush as I got to the bigger roads... which were completely clogged with 4-wheelers all the way to the bypass and queuing to get onto it. I managed to pass the standing queues quite nicely where they hadn't meandered into the bus and bike lanes. Just rain and a wee bit of slush once beyond the bypass and into the outskirts of Edinburgh. Massive puddles, too, so got splashed a fair bit and gave the water proofs a shower on return, to get the salty slush off xx(. Bike will get some TLC shortly, too .

I don't think the snow will lie for very long, the ground is far too warm, and the temperature is rising again .
