if you had to leave the UK now permanently, where would and could you go?

Isn’t that somewhere in the UK though?

Yes but its so exotic that you wouldn't believe it sometimes.

I always fancied SW France. The Pornicè area was very nice with good cycling

You'll end up with a weird French accent, though.

Having spent a couple of weeks down there, it ticks a load of boxes for me, being close to the mountains but sufficiently flat to make it tolerable for my wife.

We enjoyed cycling along the sea front.
We both got our legs burned.....very painful.

If the World is still functioning in 4 years  i'll hopefully be retiring and moving abroad.

I have a few grand ideas (Don't we all). But anywhere [Europe ?] with a decent climate would be more than fantastic. I figure that even an 'poor' day lounging outside reading the paper, drinking coffee and watching the World go by in my time - is way more appealing than being at work.

Family, kids, elderly parents etc might have reaon to argue otherwise. Time will tell.......

Gozo. They just love the British, they speak English plus several other languages fluently, it’s a lovely climate, they keep the towns and countryside clean and tidy, the rubbish is collected daily, beer wine spirits are cheap.
You get money back on recycling your cans and bottles.

I think the problem a lot of retiree's will face nowadays in moving to Europe post Brexit is that a lot of countries will now only take you on a "Golden Visa"

Long gone are the days when you could just "rock up"

To my shame, I had to look that one up as I'd never heard of it. Looks like it could be worth a visit.

We spent a day there when we had a week's holiday in Malta. The hotel we were staying at in Malta was just a few hundred yards from the ferry terminal for Gozo.

We thought it was prettier than Malta, but didn't seem to have all that much of interest.
