Just thought the grooves being nearly gone was the indicator?

Otherwise it's just as I'm putting new rims on the frame soon. If they're fine as is, then I'll leave them and just loosen off the cable at tbe caliper end as they need to widen slightly to accommodate the new rims.

There is a line around the pad - when the wear is down to that then they are shot. Once the 'grooves' wear away they are slightly worse at shedding water of rim but should work ok once you adjust the cable

The flat bit. The channel is where they slide into the cartridge and the indentation on the other surface is where the retaining screw on the cartridge fits to stop them moving.
