OK, going to give it a go, tights & overtights; merino base layer, thickish LS jersey, altura night vision. The thickest gloves I have, buff (although it makes me claustrophobic, don't much like scarves either  ) and skull cap. I expect my eyes will stream too

Money and a lock so I can get a latte after 10 minutes or so ;)

Forget the cycling just go for a little 30 min run instead.

I have a knackered knee, no running for me!

Rule 5 - as Iwas reminded yesterday

although with relevant modifications!

make sure your hands and toes are warm and you wont notice the rest after 5 minutes

but it's absolutely freezing! It's dry and I do have winter kit (gloves, merino, buff, overtights) but I just don't think I'll survive.

Despite having ample insulation, I don't do well with the cold - I was stood at a bus stop the other day with my teeth chattering! :cold: I know I'll probably warm up in time and probably end up too hot, but the first 10 minutes of hypothermia worry me

Inspire me!

I feel your pain. I was determined to put in a decent run and managed nearly 27 miles....longest this year so far but boy it was cold. I suffer from really cold extremities and fingers and toes were frozen and numb as expected. Still glad I did it though.

I managed 5.5 miles in 27 mins. Not record breaking but made it. Now sweating in costa with a skinny latte! I'll do a few more miles after my coffee perhaps. Worst bit was a cold forehead, a streaming right eye and a lot of snot!!

There were no Latte stops on my run. I supposed I could've mugged the picnickers, I thought I smelt coffee.

Why didn't I think of riding to a coffe shop?
It's just started snowing here :surrender:
so the kettle is on and I'm in watching the cycling on BBC2, does that count?

I haven't been out on my bike since Friday. I hope it warms up tomorrow as I have no choice but to cycle into Oxford however cold it is.

Wrap up well and just kid yourself you are only off out for 15 minutes. A couple of hours later when you get home you will feel great. Cold and knackered, but great ^_^
I did that on Friday afternoon - 2.5 hours and 42 miles later, and I didn't feel great at all. But you're right, I was cold and knackered.

I'd go along with this. I did 40miles this morning and wished I hadn't. Absolutely bitter if you were heading in any direction besides due South. A real struggle...

Got to agree with that, run was ok, just hated the fact it was so flat, don't think I will do that again till the summer. Though that wind did help me get a p.b. I think well on ridewithgps it is.

Indeed. I've got five weeks in mid 30s in the south of France in the diary for August. In the meantime I'm just going to limit myself to quick 20s until our own weather bucks its ideas up.

Interestingly, my two really hard rides lately have been in temperatures of 4C and 2C - legs feeling really heavy and slow on the homeward stretches (and average speeds well down, not surprisingly) - in between, on one day when it was up at 8C with light winds, my legs magically got their speed and endurance back for a zippy 80-miler. The contrast was stark.

I saw one roadie out in shorts and SS jersey. He may have even had mitts on! Nutcase! All other riders seemed wrapped up although perhaps less than me
