Hi all

Well, about three weeks ago, I discovered cycling again, after a about a 34 year gap, yeah seriously.

I bought my own bike on Friday. A ridgeback mountain bike. Yesterday, I cycled 22 miles it was just lovely. I surprised myself I could get on a bike and go that far, after such a gap away.

I have not ridden a bike since I was about 12 years old and this is my very first bike of my own.

There is no stopping me now. I am a bit wobbly and cannot cycle on the roads, I would kill myself and other people probably.

I have a 4 x 4 car, so I can pop the bike in the back and go on some lovely cycle paths and canal paths.

I live in Bonny Scotland, so there are no ends of beautiful places to go.

Great forum

welcome Jane
that must be a record on CC for a layoff !

22 miles is quite a long first sortee well done, It has taken me weeks to get up to that distance after a mere 4 year layoff.

The canal paths sound like a dream ride. Perhaps you could take your camera along and post some pics

Welcome - yes we all go through that .. why did we stop cycling in our teens/twenties ... apart from the few sensible people who didn't stop:biggrin:.

Well done getting on the bike and riding so far!

Most people struggle with doing distances like that straight off... I think it takes time to get comfy on a bike. Both getting your arse trained up to deal with it, but also tweaking the position to get it right.

If you have any problems please post them here. With the right setup you should be able to ride in comfort all day.

Thank you all for such a lovely welcome. I live in Dunfermline.

I had one of those wee computer things put on my bike, so I knew the exact miles I had done. When I got to 11 miles I thought, oh heck, Jane you nutter turn round and head back lol

I will look out the 4 x 4 section thanks.

Has anyone else noted the increase in 'motoring' 'car; references on this what I thought was a cycling forum.. 2 + wheels.... no engine.. apart from human muscle..

and yes you are right .. don't have a car... no interest in them whatsover ... but I realise I am in a minority

....what do I know...
