Hey guys,

Looking for a new hybrid for commute and general cycling, had a Daewoo hybrid before and enjoyed it.

Saw the GT Traffic 1.0 on wiggle and it seems the right one for me. At the price it is at now, I think it's perfect. Seems to have good quality components for the price (Tekto hydraulic disc brakes, deore front and rear deraileurs). Don't know much about the brand but it looks good anyway

Anyway just looking for feedback on it or if anyone has any other hybrids in the same price range that they consider better.

Thanks.

I've no experience of GT either but if its looks a very nice bike :becool:

Nice bike with good kit. Looked at a second hand one last year but went for an MTB with slicks in the end. The resale on them is low expect about 40% of new, the one I looked at sold for £200. Traditional MTB or drop bar road bikes tend to hold their value better. B'Twin Rockrider 8.1 with slicks would be a top bike.

I've got a GT MTB in the basement. Although slightly damaged after seeing just how far a hard tail will fly.

So ye think that the Deore derailleurs are good? I would have to pay a lot more to move up on the derailleur side for a hybrid, or as I have searched.

As I have searched, the brakes are pretty decent. As are the tyres. I don't think there are any other major parts worth anything, apart from the frame, which I think looks good.

Would there be any other comparable bikes in that price range?

Thanks

Hey B3vcard,

I've been looking at similar bikes for the last 3 to 4 weeks and finally decided this time last week to order the GT Traffic 1.0 from Wiggle (I probably ended up with your large - sorry). Originally the Traffic 1.0 was just under £500 but the price seemed to change (normally upwards) on an almost daily basis (I was convinced this was due to my clickings online) and I see it's gone up again just in time for the weekend but sadly now sold out in your size in any case.

I would have preferred to buy from LBS but they only had a medium (he said a large would be too big for me @ 5'10") and wanted £700 min when I popped in. I need to find another LBS to service the Traffic as I think I don't think he'll be happy if I take it to him.

My ideal criteria was Rigid fork, Deore components if possible, avoid combined brake levers/gear shifters for easier future brake upgrade and rack/mudguard eyelets.

Other bikes I also had my eye on (which may or may not be options for you) were:

Felt QX85D (Rutland Cycles had these for £399)
Giant Escape Disc (my 2nd choice - Wiggle £525 but have been as low as £450)
Specialized Crosstrail Disc (Evans Cycles £319. My lower spec budget option but horrible brown frame and sus fork put me off a little)

I really liked the look of the Felt but as I already have a 2005 GT Avalanche I ended up going the GT route, my mind being made up when Wiggle had them with 50% off in my size last week. Though if I'd had waited until Monday to order, I could have had a further 15% off with a special Monday offer they had on (but may not have applied to a discounted bike purchase?).

I hope the above may help in some way. Happy searchings!
