I still like the pearl effect buttons on Levi denim shirts.
Oh yes, just a bit nice:thumbsup:. Unfortunately talking about shirt buttons on a cycling forum is not on:thumbsdown:.

I seriously get the impression most people on this forum do not actually cycle. The odd ride or two a year, a lot probably haven't even cycled in years.

The real threads on proper cycling related stuff like training are frequented by the same handful of people. Which leaves everyone else posting nonsense.

The answer to all cycling performance questions are met with 'just ride your bike more', which is awful advice but typical of the type of 'cyclists' here.

How many here actually ride proper? And how many like to talk to talk about pies, 60's shirt buttons, bolivian shoe horns and other pointless nonsense?

Define proper.

I couldn't give a sh1te about training or performance cycling, long past all that now.

I ride my bikes to work, I ride to the shops, I ride to run errands, I ride to go and see friends, I ride to give my greyhounds a good leg stretch, I ride for the sheer darned hell of riding about.

None of it appears to fit your narrow trolls eye view of cycling though.

By the standards of Joe Public I cycle a helluva lot, but have never been remotely interested in training to cycle faster, or cycling as a means to get fitter. My Mate Biggs is the same, he simply loves the ride. And there's dozens of us like that who don't post in training just because we have no interest in it.

Doesn't mean we don't ride our bikes and quite a lot at that.

So what's your point?

I have a dearly loved, slightly tatty Raleigh,no cycling ''gear'' apart from a hi viz and helmet.I wear a comfy pair of old leggings that I keep for cycling and whatever comfy top comes to hand, plus a waterproof coat,on my feet I usually wear walking boots or daps.

I don't train,I'm not worried about different types of pedals - they all do the same job anyway, nor am I fussed about having disc brakes,a cycling computer or any gadgets or gizmos that you ''need'' if you're a ''proper cyclist''
As long as Gertie has no punctures/brakes and lights that work,I'm sorted.

As I obviously don't ''ride proper'' I shouldn't call myself a cyclist or be on here? Bah! Cycling is meant to be fun,however/whatever you cycle! There's no right or wrong way to ''cycle proper'' Feet on pedals, hands on handlebars, push off and look, you're cycling! :-)

Any one who thinks of themselves as a "proper" or "serious" cyclist is by default absolutely not a proper or serious cyclist.

I must be on the wrong forum then. I thought this was a guitar/music forum for people with bikes and for people who drink tea, beer, eat cake and buy rubber gloves.
I'm a pretty serious guitarist with a slight infatuation with cycling. I have only ridden 2633 miles this year, so far (I've a couple of days left yet though). I ride both my bikes regularly and have shifted 3 stone this year riding them.
No doubt you have ridden nearly as many miles as Steve Abraham this year and therefore a proper cyclist compared to us amateurs, but there is no reason to start a thread and instantly get snarky. How much riding have you done this year? Have you drunk any tea and have you any rubber gloves?

Seriously, if you don't like it here, there are other cycling forums to go and play on. I am off to make more Cowboy Pie - love pies I do. I might well give my shoe horn a quick polish too (mine is Welsh, it has a dragon on it and I got it for Christmas a few years ago) I don't have any 60's shirt buttons though, I didn't know it was a thing that I needed on here. Car boot at the weekend, I'll have a quick look about as I don't want to be chucked off the forum for want of a few buttons to discuss.
