Don't tell any golf afficianados, but when I was a youngster, with access to a horse, we used to visit our local golf course sometimes, to 'go for a burn'
The aficionados are fine with it and enjoy a laugh as I found out some years back when I was captain of my local club and loved listening to the stories of one old boy who was born in the house that was almost attached to the golf course, particularly stories of spitfires making an emergency landing on the course during the war years, he should have written a book. I told him as a 16 year old boy, myself and mates were camping and drinking and racing down the 18th fairway on a light motorbike. He did laugh at the thought it was me, but if he caught me at the time he would have given me what for. Great guy.

Phew, there's me relieved. :okay:

I genuinely feared being hunted down by a bunch of enraged stockbrokers, and systematically beaten to a pulp with five irons, for sending up all those divots..

You probably would with some, the course I was part of at that time was very unique in lots of ways but mostly because the majority of people involved were as described above. Sadly they are no longer with us and there are now a few more of the types you envisage which is probably why I moved on. :okay:

Well they'd have to catch me first.

And I've quite an armoury of weapons myself nowadays.

The course we used to gallop about on was pretty rough, created out of some hilltop common land.

We stuck to the fairways, avoided the greens.

I think that's correct golfing terminology

There’s something geometrically pleasing about that photo. It also looks like it could be the underground lair of Dr Evil.

An evening arrival into Gijon, with my temporary cycling companion Mo.

In the days before social distancing.
I wonder what he's up to now

In a way, the Covid-19 shut-down demonstrates how unnecessary much of the leisure and retail industry is.

Ironically the fact that car showroom salesmen, professional football players, professional cricketers, Formula 1, senior management and directors of marketing companies, design agencies, make-up and fashion designers and manufacturers and the like can all be put on furlough or 'work from home', maintained at 80% of their massive salaries by the UK taxpayer just shows how little they are needed...

How much needs to change?

How could these people be put to better use for the benefit of the world and its resources?

Discuss.
