The one I'm doing just now is short and flat (Nottinghamshire/ Lincolnshire) (about 150ft in 10miles oneway), when I was training for LBL I'd extend it the next counties by at least 10 miles (Leicestershire/Rutland) and could have 1,000-1,500 ft in that.
Generally very flat as most of my ride is either harbour-side or canal tow path, neither of which tend to be on an incline! However the lack of hills tends to be made up for by some very strong coastal wind which almost never seems to be behind me!
