All done. Flushed several times and going to check in half an hour for any seepage. I really don't like the way the plastic takes all that weight. Hopefully it's nylon and not something brittle.

Edit: all ok. I think the previous leak was actually from the base of the new siphon, so I used a little Fernox LSX as well as the rubber washer this time. It doesn't interfere with future removal.

Now I need to tell everyone NOT to pump the flush lever with extreme prejudice, as it just works!

Just starting work building an understairs cupboard.

Not bad considering the obly tools I own are a hammer and an even bigger hammer.

Needs some slight finessing and a final paint.

But the new Fluidmaster doughnut is waaaay too big. You'd think these would be a standard size, and they're sold "for all close-coupled pans". Bollocks are they. Off to Toolstation, which apparently sells the smaller 80mm size.
This type of fitting is about the only thing I routinely buy from B&Q because I can compare the old one to the dozens on display to work out which is actually the right one.

Fitted some cornice/coving to an alcove cupboard with >90degree corner.
Making the mitre jig to cut the high density foam was the hardest part. Lots if 3D rotational thinking required. Once glued in place, the additional thickness of glue left a small gap in the mitre that needed filler.

Fixed the garage dehumidifier. We've had it years and it's done a good service but after it was lent to someone, it came back with dodgy buttons. Took a bit of prodding to set the humidity otherwise the timer would just display. Anyway, checked a few months ago and all the buttons just turn on the timer or switch it off. It won't run.

Then I had an idea to see if I could remove the circuit board and clean it. Managed to get it out and it was full of dust. Brushed off and sprayed the board with contact cleaner. Reassembled and it's working. Buttons just need a good press. That's the bikes and tent nice and dry over winter.

I need to extend the legs of a cot bed. The legs are 40mm round. I hve some 40mm round wood. How do I drill the centre for dowel reinforcement with a hand held electric drill?

have you got a 40mm spade or forsner bit? ...and some scrap wood to make a small jig?

I looked up how to find the centre, and knocked up a simple step jig with MDF scraps to hold the 40mm dowel, then " rawdogged" the hole with a sharp forstner bit. It was all good enough to align well.

One bedroom in Manchester painted today, again it was hard work.We have too much to do .Not happy with the prep. Before i began i had to put things right,so got another late start. We have tried to do everything in three weeks.I hate rushing or taking shortcuts.I now think at 74 it is time to stop volunteering even for the family. Not sure what the painting looks like it was still drying.Carpet comes Monday.See what i mean about short time, which leaves no time if something needs putting right.Well back next week to clear out rubbish so iwil have a look at the finished dried painting.

Maybe i should just accept that i am not a pro,and i am 74.So anything i do is better than it was.In April we are paying for a decorator to do the hallway and staircase, plus remove the ceiling paper repaper and emulsion paint the ceiling,i wonder what he would charge for doing all the room.the walls i have just done.I like things perfect,i think its a form of ocd.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Bathroom door sticking badly making it hard to close so i had to get the electric sander to take a load off the bottom of the side that the handle is on and also take the metal plate off where the latch goes in so i could take a bit of wood off so it would not catch on that .
I had already checked the hinges and everything is tight and loads of gap on that side but i cant adjust the hinges without taking more off that side either .
Door now shuts properly although its still tight i dont want to take much more off .

Stuck up a run of picture rail in our tall ceilinged to-be dining room. Quite satisfying as for once all the rawlplugs seemed to in something solid. A laser level is brilliant for this and similar jobs. Wish I'd forked out for the dearer 360 degree one. The room was my workshop, well OK, junk room until recently so there was a stack of tooling and such to find a home for around the rest of the house.
