Did the 100 in 2011, and the 50 last year. Both good routes, with the 50 well within a first-time-sportive riders capability.
Signed up for the 100 this year. Looking forward to that climb up to Moulin.........

I rode the 50 route today in reverse. 61 miles total from my house. Beautiful on a day like today but worth noting that the Dunkeld-old military road is one of the worst in Scotland at the moment.

Pedro, which road is this? The one from Dunkeld to Butterstone? Or the one from Caputh up to Dunkeld?
Is there alot of climbing in the 100? i think i would manage the 100 without big climbs but not sure with big climbs :bicycle:

Caputh to Dunkeld. Was closed but i rode it anyway. It has been terrible for a while but it was ridiculous! Hopefully fixed for the Sportive come August.
The roads in general are horrendous just now. It's actually starting to put me off riding a bit. Feels more like sitting on a pneumatic drill than a bike and you can hardly take your eyes off the road in front of you watching out for ruts and potholes.

Can't see there being money in the pot to do much repairs either.

Am I being completely mental by considering entering the 50 miler, given that I haven't even been on a bike for six years? I'm hoping to buy a road bike in the next week or so. I used to be into mountain biking before I had an off at Dalbeattie and broke my wrist. Is five months enough time to train for such an event???

Go for it, Delb!! The 50 mile is a good workout, but not a killer......5 months is more than enough time to prepare....

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Much appreciated.

Got my first bike, a Specialized Rockhopper, back in 1991 and then a gorgeous Pace RC200F2 in 1993. Then sold that (biiiiig mistake!!) and bought an Orange Evo 8 hardtail and an Orange 5 Pro, but stacked big style in 2008 and sold both bikes shortly after. Am now 46 years of age and looking to get into what will, hopefully, be the slightly more gentle art of road cycling.

A quick question for those out there with the local knowledge. My son has just started a riding a fixie; would the 50 mile route be viable for that sort of machine? (He's old enough and reasonably fit)
