Whenever I think about helmets I ask myself, "Would Jesus have worn one?"

I don't think he would...

A good thing about our roads is the traffic.

It means that almost everyone under 30 is just too terrified to ever not wear one.
Older riders had it calmer.

Yep, send them out with a talisman on their head to ward off evil spirits drivers and they will become invincible.

Or even more so.

It was also quite the norm to cycle to the pub once upon a time.
Still is as far as I'm aware.

Quite clear from that that you weren't riding on our roads in the 1960s, 70s, 80s, or 90s then. At all of those times the roads were far more dangerous and less calm than they have been in the past 12 years. The traffic now is sane and tame compared to the worst time, the 1980s. Interesting that helmets have appeared since the traffic behaviour has improved. (evidence on the ONS website if you want it)

In fact I see less helmet wearing on the roads among under 30s than over 30s. (But that's anecdote not evidence)

It's quite clear that most people on this forum have less understanding of either mathematical statistics and probability or risk assessment than medical people have of the effects of cycle helmets - and that means less than bug'r all.

There are some here who are clearly exceptions to that and that's why their posts on the subject actually make some sense, but they're few and far between. I'd name names but the mods might object.

No rearward protection? My Poc lid, my Giro Xen both have excellent rear and lower side coverage.

Including my work helmets I now have 6, and on none of them does the packaging or literature advise that correct use of the helmet may cause injury.
So, going on your response you are saying your helmets offer lower skull/base of skull protection & side protection, from the ears down. From that I'm assuming they are full face. I'll not count protuding edges as they can be moved.
In Evans, last week, when I noticed what was printed on the outside of the box. Which said that injury could be caused by correct use of the helmet. Not that exact wording.

If that is the case, helmets can cause injury when used correctly, are we now seeing the reverse/other side of the story coming out.

By the way, I checked all mine & none of them had any waring either on the box or in the box that injury could be caused by correct usage. Newest is just short of 18 months old. So maybe its something newer.

Isn't the corrrect use of a helmet to wear on in an accident? There's no surprise then that you might get injured ....

But its wearing the helmet that may cause the injury.

If they're only to be worn during accidents how do you forsee the accident & if you do forsee it does it remain an accident.
