Oh, yes, the VIO can do tagging. Can't be bothered though, I just want clips of the video incident, without re-rendering, hence the use of virtualdub and QTPro for clipping. I don't want to keep 20GB of footage for each commute, but a few tens or hundreds of MB for each incident is fine.
Think you're missing a trick, bud. You can save the clips only, then kill the original footage all on the unit. No re-render required. Each battery change, I tell it to save any tags as 2 minute clips, then kill the original footage (HD eats memory). Come end of week, I move the assorted tag folder to the PC as a 'greatest hits' clips, then format the card.
