I wonder how much of that difference is physical differences is the camera & how much of that difference is the response curve that the encoding software is using. If it's more the latter then you just need a bit of software to change the light curve, if it's the former, you're stuck.

My limited understanding is that its both firmware and sensor which are used differently. Still a CMOS sensor iirc just a tiny bit bigger so less noise

If you compare the start of the Contour footage with the start of the GoPro(about 4m10s in), the GoPro clearly shows the Ninja cyclist which I had a had time seeing with my eyes and the Contour almost misses.

Think yourself lucky, I bought a Contour Plus then a week later they released the Contour Roam which would I would have bought instead.

I spent £700 on a recorder unit and wired bullet camera in 2009. The unit had the added benefit that I could record off the telly too, in mpeg2 and watch on the puter later. Annoyingly the unit died recently after someone in the house dropped it.
