If only a couple of hours between drinks then I will use the same mug for the same drink IE tea .

Always washed every day just not after every use .

Use a different mug for my hot cordial drink.

The first mug I use goes on the draining board to use as a caddy for soaking the cutlery in, the second gets reused all day, but I only drink water.

I re-use mugs during the day, maybe with a quick swill, maybe without. They get washed up properly when there's enough of a sink's worth of washing up to do.

Regarding staining - every so often a small squirt of bleach and top up with water and they are gleaming in an hour or two.

I'm mostly bimugist as the lovely Mrs PP, an early riser, brings me a tea and a coffee each morning in bed. I find the "six cup" sized stove top mokka pot is just right for a full mug of coffee. I might have a couple more one-of-each mugs in the morning then usually tea only for the rest of the day, with the occasional late night extra coffee

We have many, yes a lot of, identical mugs. It's an OCD thing.

They get used once and then into the dishwasher.
That seems to run every other day. Everything except one kitchen knife goes in the dishwasher. Saves water and energy.

I am not allowed to bleach the mugs - they have to be soaked and wiped well and put in the dishwasher
SWMBO has a thing about bleach not touching anything you eat or drink out of or use for cooking
she has lots of weird little household "things" that make no sense - but annoyingly work

bleach is one I think is inaccurate - after all if there is any left the dishwasher will shift it easily - but what do I know!

My mum used to bleach our toothbrushes once a week. You could taste the bleach the next time you used it. I don't *think* it's done me any harm.

Lots if bleaches have scent; wouldn't want those in my mugs, although as you say the DW would get rid of any residual bleachyness

Not bleach, but for mild staining, boiling water and a good sploosh of lemon juice, and for heavy staining, boiling water and some soda crystals, and then left to cool prior to washing up as normal.

I'll just repeat what I said up thread: VWP Cleaner Steriliser.

It is the mortal enemy of tea stains. And it's for sterilising food equipment so it doesn't have any perfumes or anything like that.

the workshop mug - doub't t has ever been washed - I like a mug with a bit of character
it gets filled with boiling water numerous times a day, that would kill any germs ? (or at least of cold flue type stuff)?
(Nobody else ever uses it when I'm not there, and that is a positive)

Coffee mug - the mug is about half filled with the freshly boiled water from the kettle which is swirled around, poured down the sink and the inside of the mug given a quick cleaning/drying wipe with a tea towel before then making the coffee.

Hot chocolate mug (yes I have a separate one with Dangermouse on the outside and a picture of Penfold on the inside so the correct amount of milk to use is when Penfold's just about to get a mouthfull) - left to soak with cold water overnight and extra water is added to the kettle for the first coffee of the morning to rinse it out as above.

Pint glass for squash - used for days on end without being cleaned and will be given a full hot water & washing up liquid clean when it seems necessary.

Reuse mugs all day - but one each for tea and one each for coffee. I find the taste overpowers if you try to put tea in a mug that last had coffee and hasn't been washed.

All the ones used any day go in the dishwasher in the evening.

One visit to Fairford for the Air Show my Dad told me that when they were based there during the war the ground crew had a hut out by where the aircraft were parked - or something
I suppose they waited in there when the planes were due back so they could get to them quickly - the armours had to be the first on the aircraft to take care of anything bangy

anyway - they had a teapot
it just got darker and darker as the war went on - never washed - occasionality got rinsed
tea got better and better
