All but the first letter in 3. There then followed a series of possible words until I ran out of first letters. That four-letter tail has 10 possible initial letters! Luck shows its hand.

Isn't the tactic then to not use the tail letters in attempt #4 but to try a word using as many as possible of the potential first letters. You then eliminate as many as possible of them/find out which one it is?
