Its particularly galling when you know the huge number of relationships that have been harmed and pushed to their limit and kids being separated from one of their parents by borders, just because a UK citizen doesn't earn enough for their loved one/children to reside in this country :cursing:

Would the immigration status (of Ms Markle) be improved if the couple were to marry in (say) America, and, then, move here?

The rules may have changed in the interim, but, some 12 years ago, one of my sons, a UK Citizen, (at that time, living in Mexico) married a Mexican lady, in Mexico. They subsequently moved to the UK. To the best of my knowledge, she was granted "right to remain", and was allowed to work whilst here. Again, to the best of my knowledge, the only hoop to jump through was to show that my son had sufficient income. The threshold deemed sufficient was relatively low 9about £18,000pa as I recall). I would have thought that HW could manage that.

Yes they're making an exception as it is at there discretion apparently. Within the last month I've read articles about pregnant Iraqi asylum seeker and ill Kurd asylum seeker both turned away from NHS hospitals due to not having passport or the money to pay upfront, have also read about the home office claiming it is perfectly acceptable for a parent to have to raise their child over skype and therefore they do not need to be united in this country. All this has been done in the name of creating a hostile environment, but if you're rich enough or privileged enough, a completely different set of rules apply, i'm fuming...

Ho hum. Thought about the above the other day. 10 seconds in the brain, then moved on. Pertinent points being raised.

Some wit somewhere should give me some quip that says the Law is worked for and by the status quo. As a pleb you really rely on charity if you think it'll work for you..(yeh,not in every case).

Screwed by the system, knowing the system, frightened by the system.
