As there are so many of you Norwich lot, would anyone be interested in weekend rides? I've a few routes of varying lengths, though they tend to feature 'detours'.

Pace around 13-17mph depending on what everyone's happy with but would definitely have stops. Not even cyclogs pride can stand in the way of cream tea

And as for not needed 21 gears - you've never been up Gas Hill in Norwich then

Good luck with the DIY bike thing - sounds like fun.

"Gas Hill" is that the dual carraigeway going into Norwich - I remember going to Great Yarmouth at 19(22yrs ago) on my Scooter doing 85mph and thinking I'd had it,when the speed cops where behind me - they just flew by, bigger fish to fry? Recently did work for Laurence Scott at the Gothic works do they still exist?

No, Gas Hill is a long narrow climb up from the river. Hard to make out from pictures and not some hilly northern place, but for us Norvicenians, it's a mountain....:

Just read about Laurence Scott the other day - good news:

Yeh! That's brilliant new's - I was the Test Technician in charge of the QA /final certification of their NECO range of motors from 2003 - 2007. They were wound / assembled and tested in Glasgow / Grangemouth by a subcontractor(who I worked for at the time). That part of the business is in the US/Canada now(with DSI).

I feared the worst for them. There were some pretty big vultures circling around their order books for some time. ;)

I wish them and there workers all the best for the future.

Hiya

I am floating about.. haven't committed myself to any group rides etc because I am literally so unfit (!).. I took myself out on what seemed like an epic ride last week and I worked out it was about 7 miles.. at a snails pace too LOL

Having said that, I am enjoying myself which is the main thing!!

I am in Diss, working as a freelance marketing consultant but also working at a hotel part time to pay the bills (as the other work is hit and miss as just starting up since being made redundant from marketing manager job at end of July)... Nice to say hello.

The bike sounds interesting! Keep us posted xx

Hi NorfolkNewbie, Congrats on going solo with your consultancy! Going it alone can be scary and I wish you huge success

I know what you mean about rides. The feeling of coming home with the feeling you've conquered the bike equivalent of Everest only to look at the bike computer and discover you've pretty much just popped to the shops and back - I get that feeling often

I'd be interested in joining up. Although next Weekend I'm having a kitchen fitted so cyclings off

I hit 15mph on the flat this morning (well chuff'd) but tbh I'm averaging around 9-10mph atm. Don't think I could keep up with a 13-17mph pace for long ;)

Hi Norfolk Newbie, Sounds like you and I are in the same place at the moment. I went out on a ride this morning. Felt like 20miles, then the cycle computer told me it was a little under 10. Oh hum, the only way to improve is practice. Looking forward to getting out after work tomorrow.

Sorry, I read that quickly as having a kitten fitted...

Don't worry too much about the distances anyone. Just go out and enjoy it, maybe have a point to the ride (a pub, or cafe or something) and one day you'll realise you've actually gone further than you thought.

And don't forget, to many people, anything over a mile under your own steam is epic.

Hi Chaps

How about a ride on the 6th or 13th December

Meet at the County Hall roundabout south of Norwich at 10am,
the distance approx 35 miles

we will ride at the speed of the slowest rider
(I expect it will be myself)
