Been a few years since I've been along the canal after Gravesend. Should be fun! And to save anyone translating the possible google route, here's the gpx version. (Although I'm assuming we won't be climbing to go past the tank museum in Chatham/Brompton).
Which conversion website and/or application did you use for that (the Firefox add-on one I've tried is a bit rubbish)?

Ohhh! Towpathtastic!
I take on board your sage words about the path being waterlogged.
I think we had May's rainfall quota surpassed today.
EDIT: Edited to remove the unfeasibly long link.
My device recorded 8.4mm which brings the monthly total to 33mm, I'd say around the average for May. It was the wettest day of the month and also makes May the wettest month this year, which has been pretty dry so far ,with 141.8mm in total. The first 5 months of last year yielded over 190mm and June and July between them were as wet as Jan to May.

If that towpath is as dry as the ground is in Southend I would doubt that today's rain has made a lot of difference.

In fact I'd already done a route taking account of the canal path, so I'd just downloaded it to the SatMap, to manually tweak a few points that had changed, and then uploaded the finished version into ridewithgps. I haven't found any online route plotters which let you easily tweak a route, so I've found it's quickest to do it on the GPS.

Nice route, taking me to parts of Kent I don't know at the start then lots of places I know very well, in fact everything after the stop in strood is very familar. At Milton Regis, we will be passing withing meters of my my parents house were I grow up. As there is now a northern way across Milton Creek, it would open up the propsect of a Northern Route round Sittingbourne, has this been considered? Taking in Milton Creek Country Park to the west of the creek and the not so nice Eurolink Industrial Estate on the other. Still much nicer than going via the station IMHO....

Funny you should mention the northern route round Sittingbourne. When I was on a Whitstable run with RB58 of this parish recently, we tailed another cyclist for a while. He turned right at Tonge St/Church Road whilst we turned left to go via the Eurolink Way, we bumped into him again at Stickfast Lane. So Mr RB worked out his route, Murston. Kemsley and a cycle path/bridge over the A249

Looks like there are few ways to go although only one bridge accross the creek. The bit that I like the look of the most is the new country park I've not been there yet (i don't live there anymore) but in the car on saturday it looks like lots of nice wide dual use cycle / ped paths through the country park. Something like this http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=iqmhmfxuetewxxaz or this http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=hjtlwdwehdziakwn
In the early days of the Whitstable rides, when it was all fields round there, we used to cross the A 249 using the footbridge just to the north of Howt Green.
The reason we stopped using it was because of the junction at the end of Bramfield Lane - which at that time of day is already busy with traffic, and it's blind to the fast traffic coming up from the right, is essentially a nightmare to either cross straight across, or to turn right and drop down the hill into Sittingbourne.
As the rides have grown in size the problem has been compounded. We also used to lose people at the turn to the footbridge, and ended up having to chase them down when they were half way to Sheerness. That was the point at which DZ tweaked the route to take us through Milton Regis and past Sittingbourne station - admittedly not the lovliest, but definitely the safer option. If you've not been through that part of Sittingbourne since last year, you are in for a surprise. Eurolink way is so disgusting that I'm not prepared to talk about it without my solicitor present.

EDIT:There are urban / industrial wastelands which do attract (heavens knows, I've organised more than a few rides to these) But Eurolink is not one of them. No. That is all.

I've been up and down and around, and in and out, and back and forth, and Milton Regis is as good as its ever going to get.

That's kinda what I had in mind when I said 'DZ tweaked the route to take us through Milton Regis'
These routes aren't arrived at and established on the basis of convenience.
What might work for a ride of, say, 2 or 12, won't necessarily work for a ride of 80 plus...

I am happy to report that my lovely wife and I will be doing lots of cake baking tomorrow night. I am really looking forward to this ride, especially now I've seen the weather forecast.

Gutted that I can't make this one, especially with the demise of the Sarffend ride, but I hope the weather stays bearable and you all have a great night :-)
