Three excellent reasons why my Brommie will be staying at home (in addition to the fact that I cant find a way of marking the correct seat height and have therefore hurt my knee) Will be ok on the roadbike tho

I am quite capable of being a complete prat/twat (inadvertently attention seeking or otherwise) without actually signing up to it from the start!

I well know adjusting the seat post height on folders can be fiddly, but surely you don't need to mark it?

Sadly my knee is un Brommie amused. Maybe I should start a thread on the Folder Section in here about how to mark the right seat height without damaging the Brommie coolness. Or seeing Stuaffs comment - how do you find the right height?

Mice your name has been removed which is a shame! I think you will need to buy a telescopic seat post to sort out the riding position.

An automatic centre punch is probably your best, least damaging, friend here....
If you think that a mark the size of a full stop will be sufficiently visible then that's one solution.

M, get a marker pen and draw a line on the post where it enters the main frame once it is at the right height. Then you know where to clamp the post each time. If the post slips then just tighten the clamp a couple of turns with the clamp off.

Ahaaa - Marker pen. OK will give that a go. (You'd have thought Brompton might have come up with something a bit more exotic than blobs though wouldnt you?).

Suggest it to them.
Plenty of seat-post manufacturers have a scale/rule etched onto their posts - Barclay hire bikes included! - I think it might be tricky with Brommies though - aren't the seat-posts chrome plated steel?

Permanent marker pen suggestion is a good'un in the interim though.

The solution is so blindingly simple that even I can see it. Just get a 32" inside leg and the fully extended standard jobby is just the ticket. No fiddling, no marking needed.

Oh and I'll be sporting a pink handbag. Eat your heart out Adrian.

For plated steel it is best to use Ichorean Terps, otherwise you'll be led a merry dance trying to get the marker pen off.
Bring a tape measure! If it is possible to stop for 10.26 minutes (+/-) to buy Evian, it is possible to stop for 10 seconds to zero in one's seat height I feel. No point in having the bike otherwise.
