I am in something of a quandary.. Am down to marshall at mitcham common toilets then head home (arranged before 2.0 aka m0lly arrived). Now though, I have a pass to head to Brighton and really fancy a good ride but.... Have been on holiday for last 2 weeks and haven't been on the bike in 3. Also am chuffing knackered due to holiday's with kids not exactly being relaxing....

What to do? Would feel crap if I bailed like last time out to Brighton.

Head for Brighters, Chris.
If it goes tits-up you've all night train options from Gatwick.
If you get further than that, then first trains will be running before or around 05:00 to get you home.

Forecast is for a fine night.
How often do you get that?
Think on.

Will be popping by to say hello on this - cycling off at Tooting again. Should hopefully have a +1

So with less than 3 hours til I leave, I have no main lights, no saddle bag - Spare tubes, tyre levers, multi-tool etc, plus my mitts where in there too and i'm running on about 4 hours sleep.
If anyone see's a red haired, red coated lass face down in a ditch about 2am, could you give her a poke & possibly a nice hot coffee...??

Mandy - wow, what a day you've had!

Listen, I'll bring extra mitts for you. Ring/text me on 07905 797585 when you get to Semley Place for registration. Or look out for me - dark assymetric-bob hair, black Surly Cross Check w/ black Carradice saddlebag, short sleeve Fridays jersey over light-coloured long-sleeve base layer (cream or sky blue, haven't decided yet!)

Anyway - don't worry about spare tubes, levers, tools, etc - that's what Brixton Cycles and the TECs are for.

Sorry I can't help with lights though - can anyone else reading this before they leave for HPC throw in a spare set??

I won't be completing the ride once I've done my stint at Mitcham. Got a busy day on Saturday with an early start

See you at SP for 11pm or just after.

I did just PM fummymummy, but it looks like she's sorted.

I routinely carry a spare set of lights on group night rides, so should anyone need an emergency pair, you know who to talk to.

Things like spare tyres and whatnot are less important. If you're lucky you won't need them, but even if you do, chances are that someone could help you, there will be plenty of people who will have this kit, and if all else fells, the mechanics at the back should be able to sort stuff out.

Mitts I couldn't help with, I've got a spare set here, but I wouldn't generally bring them with me, and unless you've got big hands, mine are likely to be far too big (I think my spare set are Mens XL). If you're that desperate then PM me, or post into this thread, I should get it any time up to about 10 to 10-30ish.

fummymummy... ? What's that about. Sorry for the misspelling funnymummy.

This keyboard is a very very cheap Novatech one, and whilst I'll tolerate some fairly hopeless hardware, this one is god awful. Unfortunately I don't have a spare USB keyboard at home at the moment, so I haven't got anything to swap it out for.

Popped down to Evans to get something for my Camelback, and a spare link. Got home and it says 'Campagnolo only'. I hope I don't have something go wrong but at least it's a fairly new bike. See you there folks.

Wishing everyone a great ride and pleasant marshalling. I was hoping to get along to provide some support and encouragement at the roadside but unfortunately I'm not allowed out - so, have some 'well done', 'keep going', and also some 'looks like it's going to be a glorious morning' for later.

I've got spare links, single speed, 5-8 speed, 9 speed, and 10 speed.

If you're using 11 speed, tough.

Thnaks again TimO, and don't worry about the typos, I have several nicknames, & most of my mates get them muddled up so I respind to all manner of monikers.
I do have very big hands, think my mitts were a mens XL if i remember rightly - I've just found my winter gloves, super thick/thermal sealskinz, so i'll bring those, might just mean I get a bit sweaty, but at least they have some padding in them
Right...i'm off to munch a bowl of pasta, drink a gallon of coffee & put my feet up for an hour
See you all about 23.00 hrs XX

time for a bit of Dickens - thick fog forecast for Brighton. I think anybody not going up the Beacon at around about dawn will be seriously missing out.......

 • fog everywhere, fog up the river where it flows among green aits and meadows - fog down the river, where it rolls defiled among the tiers of shipping and the waterside pollutions of a great (and dirty) city. Fog on the Essex marshes, fog on the Kentish heights. Fog creeping into the cabooses of collier-brigs; fog lying out in the yards, and hovering in the rigging of great ships ... Fog in the eyes and throats of ancient Greenwich pensioners, wheezing by the firesides of their wards; fog in the stem and bowl of the afternoon pipe of the wrathful skipper, down in the close cabin; fog cruelly pinching the toes and fingers of his shivering little 'prentice boy on the deck.

Aha, sounds like you're OK. I'll chuck the spare set in my panniers, they're not exactly heavy or bulky!

The ones I've got don't have much padding though, they're just Altura Crochet ones, so adequate, but not overly designed to provide much padding.

Grrr Mumble Grrrrrr
First bcak at work today after 6 weeks off, woke at 4am, couldn't get bcak off to sleep properly, just as about to doze back off i'd wake in a panic i'd actulay been alseep & overslept

Arrived rather bleary eyed & half dead..:tired:much like everyone else so didn't feel too bad - Luckily there's no kids in til Monday, so zombie like behaviour was acceptable - and found that one of my colleagues did indeed sign up :wahhey:

Had a made a mental plan that would finish work at 15.00, dropping my bubs at their dads at 16.00, home to make sure bike all ok, check tyres, fit lights etc & then have a few hours kip before catching the 21.39 train tonight
Why do plans never go according to plan...?

Home from work, #1 son needs dropping off in Brighton, phone ex to say will drop #2&3 off slighlty later, only when we get there he not in... Finlay get home at 17.30 to discover that #1 borrowed my MTB, and he took the front lights & saddle bag off it when he locked it up at at work... In a secure compound..?
He has left the damn things in his locker at work, but can't understand why i'm mad as i'm riding the Spesh tonight, not the MTB.... "So i don't need lights any then..?" I shout down the phone "Oh, sowry" he mumbles.
So with less than 3 hours til I leave, I have no main lights, no saddle bag - Spare tubes, tyre levers, multi-tool etc, plus my mitts where in there too and i'm running on about 4 hours sleep.

Don't worry, it will be half term soon!!

If you need anything & can drive to Hove (I'm pissed!) let me know otherwise I'll see you at Coldean lane, I'll have my silver Spesh with blue neon string wrapped around the frame!
