I am well up for The Sparkly Junction Contest and am SO going to win it. My daughter has purchased for me a selection of bouncy balls, lighting bracelets ...

That sounds like the Kitty City I just bought for my cats (mainly the kitten Zev, since Kai will happily just sleep all day!)

it doesn't. And the ticketing staff get asked the same question twenty times a day and all it does is remind them that one of these days all tickets will be sold on-line and they will be out of a job.

I beg to differ. Their own stats suggest that ticket sales over-the-counter, and via the machines on station, are booming at many locations. The discount on web is their response to the complaints of customers queueing at the stations, so they say.

At Horsham, we are getting a new ticket hall to cope, and in a listed building.

I would just like to say
  • I am looking forward to being a marshal on this immensely and it looks like the best weather EVER on a FNRTTC, and may even banish all memories of The Southend Ice Ride

    and The Torrential Ditchling Experience

. This is going to be Such Fun.

My daughter has purchased for me a selection of bouncy balls, lighting bracelets and of course I already have the Reflective Bra plus lots of other lights........ Riders can shout marks out of 10 as they pass, should they so wish......
  • Er, that's it

I prefer being the voice in the dark at the lonely junction.

Last year I couldn't help but smile as I heard people saying "Is this it? Do you think this is the junction? Do we go left here" to each other as they approached. What did they think I was doing standing there?

Last year I was also a lonely marshall at junction of How Lane and the sharp bare left along Chipstead High Road (top of Coulsdon Lane) where many people were saying which way - which way? Simon assures me no one has ever got lost at that point and I guess he's right! Instead I shall be flasing my lights at OS Grid Ref: TQ 28463 57851 where there is an offending sunken square manhole be carefull a) not to go down the gap and b) not to knock me over as Coulsdon Lane is fairly narrow. The defective manhole was reported on "Fill that Hole" on 13 Aug. Enjoy your ride everyone and have a safe journey.

On the subject of cheap tickets I got the last £4.95 Southern single to East Croydon this morning from my friendly ticket man at Tadworth station. It's got a reserved seat for me and bike, only problem is it's the 8.19am ex Brighton 3 Sept so an early exit for me! I need to get home for a kip as I am riding a 25ml time trial at 6am Sunday morning on the A24 Horsham.

Martin - those of us who witnessed Tim's lightshow last year know that you have a job on your hands. Never mind the colours - the intensity was retina-scorching. And then there was the 747 that landed on the B2036...........
