Hahaha. Very good dodgy.

The Gore is made from gore-tex paclite. I'd say this is a lot more breathable than the altura and packs away smaller. IMHO the Gore is considerably better.

I put the wrong link in though....i meant http://www.johnlewis.com/21426/Style.aspx (and they only have large left) AND.....its for the ladies!

What you doing about the womens mishap though? ;)

Ah cancelled promptly. One of the things about a company like John Lewis, they had a UK call centre working at nearly 10pm on New Years Day who answered my call immediately and happily sorted me out.

I have a Gore Paclite, and yes it folds down very small, but you sweat like a dog in it. So you end up just a wet with it on as you would not wearing it. I have to admit to being very disappointed with it. Of course its not helped by having no vents?

That said if its a cold day, then it does act as a good windblocker if you have to stop for any reason. But as soon as you get going, take it off!

But the same token I also have a Altura jacket, which has a mesh lining. It doesn't pack down as small, no where near as small in fact, but IMHO it is a much more comfortable jacket to ride in. It has zippped vents on either side and a large open vent one across the whole of the rear. Half the price but IMHO twice as good as the Gore.

Edinburgh Cycle Co-op have just started their winter sale.

Their High Power LED front lights - which recently got a C+ best buy recommendation - have been reduced from £19.56 to £14.56, and their 20l panniers are down from £60 to £48.

I just picked up a hi-vis vest in the poundshop. I don't need one, I have a couple already, but I realised it has over 2 metres (I just measured it) of reflective tape sewn onto it, which I'm going to unpick and sew/stick on other stuff - my new winter gloves are all black, so I'm going to put a patch on the back of each hand, for a start.

Well, in the time it took to watch the repeat of Dr Who (sob) I have a pair of gloves with reflective triangles on them, and a rack pack with a reflective strip where it had none before. For a quid, and a bit of work with scissors and a needle.

(the holes left by the original stitching make a nice neat template for any reattachment sewing too!)

And I still have nearly 2m of the stuff left! There's no stopping me!
