Exactly, and this new fangled 10,11,12 speed is very expensive on consumables (cassettes). Glad my commuter is 8 speed (well 7 TBH) as cassettes are cheap and I seem to eat 2 sprockets very quickly.

Depends a lot on how much wear there is on the chain, change the chain once it is starting to wear and cassettes last longer.

A late shout, apologies. I should have posted this on CC a few days ago. Aldi appear to have a fair few bike bits in at the moment, most of it pretty average and unexciting but what they do have that most of us use is GT85 at £2 a tin. I was tempted but I've still got about half a dozen tins left from their last bike bits blitz so I kept my hands firmly in my pockets. That's a typical saving of £1 a tin on supermarket prices. Worth stocking up.
