those are the tin can trains aren't they?

With the high steps to get on?

Cursed and cursed on getting onto something like that at Manchester Picadilly or Preston a while ago with a fully loaded tourer.

They wouldn't have been allowed down south 20-30 years ago.

(is there a farewell tour? Can't come soon enough)

I thought this was against regulations and that you'd be strung if trying to leave?

They used to do folk for this who booked tickets from London to beyond gatwick airport and then, devilish fraudsters that they were, tried to get off at Gatwick.

I've asked the question... I'll let you know. I quite frequently do it my usual one us a Wigan to Manchester return and get off at Bolton, or Blackrod to mcr return getting off at Farnworth then getting back on a later train. I have done it for years and have never had an issue.

Course these promotional tickets are specific to specific trains.

I'm surprised some wag in the marketing department at Northern hasn't tied these cheap tickets in with the Grand Pacer Farewell Tour where you can spend 12 hours traveling across the region on a 142...

That may have something to do with they let slip they are not going as planned. They are set to hang around in South Yorkshire well into 2020.

Yes that's right literary Buses on train wheels.

Funny you say they wouldn't be allowed down south because's it was a one point planned to replace them with 30 year tube trains.

More than that buses on a wagon chassis with 4 wheels - if they had a proper passenger vehicle chassis with a pair of bogies they would have been a lot better but they were ordered at a time that investment in railways was at a low point and it was a case of getting the most with limited resources. It quite an experience on the ears being on one going round the right angle curve on the Leeds-Harrogate line.

We have had some reports about some off topic posts in this thread.
I see that there has been some discussion about a post for some cheap train fares, which is fair enough!

However, please start a new thread, quoting the posts on here, if you want to continue the discussion.
Many thanks.
