I will share my biggest mistake yet......Not eating lunch, well not having anything to eat from 0400-1500 then trying to do 11 miles home!!!! How I did not en up on my back I dont know!!! Make sure you are taking on enough energy and wate ror you will end up hanging out big time!!!
Just seen this thread myself! Suffered all the same aches myself, saddle, thighs, calves, lungs.. All apart from the feet? But then I did a month or so before going clipless..
Must say I've got over them all now.. Though very envious of the distance of your first ride! 5 months in and I've still not done over 5 miles on road.. But then Derbyshire / Notts has an awful lot of hills!
Well done on your first outing which was a good distance too.
I haven't plucked up the courage to ware the lycra yet except for under normal shorts or tracky bottoms so well done on that too.
I keep reminding myself while I'm out that riding is all about the pleasure and not the speed but the times are naturally getting faster , the distance getting longer and I'm sure that the hills are smaller than they were a few months ago as I'm sure you'll be finding before too long.
......trouble is i tend to push hard and i am still a little nervous so the pleasure isn't quite there yet....bike=medievel torture implement![]()
Pleasure? Who gave you the idea that riding a bike was supposed to give you pleasure?
I'm beginning to wonder![]()
As for the pain in the balls of your feet, make sure you have good quality well fitting wicking socks - synthetic, merino or bamboo all make good options.
Mmm i am wearing quite thin socks and i am getting plenty of airflow through the shoes, so my feet aren't sweating up at the minute, can i ask why wicking are neccessary? I think its more due to setup to be honest, but i will defer to the more experienced...???
It was just a thought, but ill fitting damp socks can bunch up under the soles causing problems. Might not be the case in your instance, you're better placed to evaluate.
BTW I grew up in West Bridgford, but left in the late 80's to go to university and have never moved back.
Blimey, small world. I grew up in Bingham and left in 1988![]()
