I used to get a burning sensation in the balls of my feet, but it ceased when I moved the cleats towards the heel of the shoes.

that could be it then as i to would have said burning sensation whilst out....just aching a little now....will investigate my cleats......if i can get out of the chair:biggrin:

If it persists and cleat movement doesn't fix it, consider the specialized BG footbeds. Amazing things

Well done fella.
Good first ride out in great weather. You'll soon be up there at Olympic levels .
Not been on a road bike in 25 years and attempting Toton Hill is impressive. It's not the easiest climb to start with.
You'll soon get used to clipless. The burn is usually down to a bit of tweeking on the set up and you're sorted.
Out of interest what bike did you get and from which LBS?
Look forward to seeing you on the roads :bicycle:

Dan

Hi Dan,
i got the one below (if you check out my general post "availability of bikes" you'll see the background as to why i chose it). i got it from TS Bikes which is only 1/3 mile from me and Rob there has been very helpful and patient.

Yes Toton hill in hind sight was a mistake, its just that it would have been my first choice direction for my commute (which from todays performance i wont be starting until i have had a few more ride outs). I should have gone the other way towards Breaston, just to settle myself in. I'm in Long Eaton by the way...you will recognise me.....i'm the overweight lycra clad numpty doing 10 miles an hour:biggrin:

As soon as I saw the Ridley brand I knew it was TS bikes. Nice bike mate. Looked at a Ridley myself when choosing a bike and Rob is a good bloke.

Toton hill is a hard one for your first time but now you know you can do it and survive.. if only just and in a weakened state  .
There aren't many directions you can head out of Long Eaton without finding a hill unfortuntaley. I'm Long Eaton myself and often pick my direction depending on how I feel.
If you need any help, encouragement or someone to prop you up just drop me a message. Been riding for years so I must be some use for something or other.
I look forward to seeing you on the roads or leaning on your bike sweating profusely.

Well done with the 10 miles. The best I have done since coming back to cycling is 8 miles which knackers me, the thing is I can run 5 miles plus comfortably :headshake:so why the struggle on a road bike?

As for the Lycra, I have bought it and worn the top (with much derision from my wife :gun: ) but not the bottoms, I would feel a complete fake at present.

Not going to make this a running commentary but i was suffering a little all day today, just felt so knackered. However i pushed myself back into the saddle tonight and did 8.82 miles in 42 mins so averaged 12.4 mph (no big hills tonight, only a small one). However i did seem to hit almost every traffic light and i stopped a couple of times as my light kept turning off at every bump!! Thats going back.
Did adjust my cleats a little, feet still sore by the time i got home, have noticed i seem to be "pointy toes" rather than keeping my feet flat on the stroke so need to work on this as my saddle could i think go a little higher if anything rather than being too high. i reckon its my technique/not being used to being fixed. Might drop into lbs day after tomorrow. Got to take night off tomorrow due to commitments, so a rest night.
Thanks for all the encouragement and kind words folks, it has been appreciated:thumbsup:
