I'm a first aider but i don't carry a kit. If it only needs a plaster it ain't that bad and i figure anything that is really serious is gonna need an ambulance and if that's the case, i know CPR, I can apply pressure to a bleed (and use an inner tube as a tourniquet as a LAST resort). The only thing i think is handy is eye wash.

To be very honest all I tend to carry is a couple of non-adherent dressings and a small roll of gauze to retain said dressing, a couple of plasters. ( oh and some duct tape )
If after washing a wound with clean water those aren't enough to deal with the issue until you get home them medical intervention it is!

I don't carry any first aid stuff (unless we are touring) but I did do a sport specific first aid course last year. It was part classroom and then out in the hills on moutainbikes simulating incidents of increasing difficulty/increasing isolation from services and phone signals. First aid being carried out on the floor of a scout hall is hard enough, but if you have someone on a steep hillside, lying in a less than helpful position, it does need extra thought.

It did suggest carrying minimal kit (triangle bandages, rescue blanket etc.), but was aimed mainly at using what you had on you - jerseys, pumps, forks, wheels bags, tubes etc, to stabilise the injured until either they could be moved safely or further help arrived.

I can highly recommend it, even just for the confidence it provided

I carry a small first aid kit, look at the photo on right and its between the seat post and the rear mudguard.
but thats only for scraps and bumps, (wetwipes, plasters, tape gauze, antiseptic cream.). I carry a survival blanket, and a mobile phone, emergency mars bar. in the other pouch (along with pump, tuberepair kit, spanners) for more serious accidents.

Blimey, something else I need to worry about not having:smile:
I might start sticking a couple of plasters and some wipes in my bag, anything more serious than that and I'll be calling for help.
Just as an fyi, lady's sanitary towels -the always type - are a good addition to a first aid kit, they absorb bleeding and don't stick to the healing area.
Good tip, Sandra, thanks.
I only carry a first aid kit when out on a group ride, just a small one in my panniers.
I normally have latex gloves and a pair of tweezers anyway, for on the road side bike repairs, The tweezers are for bits of glass in the tyre, not for doing my eyebrows on the go ^_^
