As I say, I am sure all the mechanical and techy bits and bobs are great, just don't much like the finishing bits or the looks. If a C2W bike, then great but I would rather something a bit different

I wonder whether I would actually benefit from a £700 bike over the £500 Sirrus, or whether I really would have to go up to a grand...the other option is a £500 road bike  But do I need 3 bikes for riding less than a 100 miles a week

Not to mention a Golf GTI

As with cars, I tend to get bored with the bike and want a change

Maybe I should get the Crosstrail out of the shed and ride that for a week rather than the Sirrus, bit like going from standard auto mode to loony Sport in the car, keeps the experience fresh ;)

I have the GT be it a 2010 3.0 (lower spec ) same frame lower spec mechs and wheels but a great fast flat bar on fat tyres worth the 500 I paid sure the 1.0 is worth the extra

Which Sirrus do you have? I may have a look at the reductions on 2011 bikes when the time comes - when are the best bargains generally out there - February maybe, bit like convertible cars?

I have the Elite, they had the Comp & Expert in store, but not in my size.
The Elite fit me perfectly, I bought her mid March - as she was the last of his 2010 stock, he made me a generous discount.
I've just changed the saddle on it, for a womans specific & have flipped them stem on it, so am not quite so upright, but not had chance to try it out yet.

I think if I was on the lookout for a flat bar fast hybrid I would probably go for a high"ish" spec Sirrus too. I have a Marin Mill Valley that is a 2004 model it is superb and would not mind the newer version, but I think it is overpriced at just over 1k so would look at a Sirrus. I would get disc brakes if they do them too, but that's just me (I use my hybrid as a crap weather commuting bike).

I've got a GT Tachyon 1 - 2010 model. Great bike, it's not a hybrid though - carbon forks, Ultegra groupset etc. It's a fast(ish) flat bar bike if you like that sort of thing

The Sirrus bikes look very attractive, mainly for their very light weight.

How would the 700c wheels cope with going off-road on park trails or through a few muddy, rough inclines amongst the trees ?

I nearly bought a Whyte (Portabello) but ended up with the Sirrus, the shop had one 2010 model left so got it at a nice discount, sadly at that moment the £300 price differnce swung it for me

I haven't heard of Whyte before but their Portobello looks like a nice, well spec'd bike. What is their reputation like ?
Also, they don't appear to have many dealers around

I've ridden the Spesh accross some pretty bumpy tracks, we've been up the North Downs link & over part of the South Downs way, no problems with the wheels. (and i'm not the lightest of rider)
Although I think changing the tyres might be a good idea, the skinny road tyres that come as satndard, don't 'cushion' the bumps LOL!
I can't be doing with chaging tyres every time I want to go off-road, so i'm going to buy another set of wheels & have fatter tyres on them - So much easier to just swap a QR wheel over each time

A friend of mine has one, although it too small for me to have tried out, she loves it - I read a few reviews on them too & they do seem to have an excellent rep.
If you're intrested try this link to find a dealer near you... Whyte Dealers
