Evans cycles fail- my win :D

I was on the look out for a bike computer, i settled on a Garmin Edge 500 bundle. After researching online i found the best price was on Halfords for £179. With this in mind i contacted Evans' price match and they agreed. So i skipped down to Evans today to pick it up. After returning home I've realized they have sold me the premium black/red model. The price on the Evans price is £251.99 and wiggle £279.99 so really I've saved a hell of a lot of money

btw the halfords price ahs now increased but still pretty cheap at £184

Love it when someone gets on over on Evans. Love to do the price match thing when I want something, hopefully find it cheaper elsewhere, then get it delivered to the local Evans for free 5 minutes from where I work.

Am I the only one who has read this that thinks that this isn't something to be crowing and backslapping about? During a negotiatiing course ( a long time ago) I was taught to check if you thought a deal was "fair" to reverse it and see if you would be happy. What I see here is a shop losing out because of a mistake ( one that could have been quickly and honestly corrected ) to the sum of over £70 , would anyone who thinks this is wonderful have been happy if they had been overcharged by £70?

how many people lose out because they aint got the nouse to price check in the first place

i would much rather deal with a company that offers half decent prices to all than deal with a company that inflates prices to the point where it can afford to price match in the hope of screwing a shed load of people that dont price check

The question is not one about the price check , but that the wrong ( more expensive) item was supplied.

no for to me it seemed that it was a question of morals and the question seemed to be should he have gone in and told them but to me there are no more morals in overinflating prices to try and screw people when with their price check system they can obviously sell items cheaper and still make a profit so the shop or supporters of can not take the moral high ground

we live in a rip off country where we get screwed at every angle and if the little man gets 1 back then good luck to him. Like i say every compared to the amount of people that lose out to evans i dont think it will kill them

i am not knocking evans alone

the likes of halfords are just as bad e.g. the other day i bought a topeak pump as i was in halfords £15.99 come home next day look online £9.59 online price that i can pick up in store in 10 mins

they still got shops open and the costs of running them but they can still sell them for under a tenner and make a profit yet they choose to screw people that happen to use their shops before checking price online?

good luck to the guy for getting a deal for a change instead of getting screwed by the big money machines

Not sure about others but I can't bring myself to do the price check thing. I will order from the merchant that quoted the lowest price if all things are equal. I just feel that without such merchants a cartel like environment will re-emerge and competition wise it does not help the consumer. If we don't support such merchants, these guys will eventually go to the wall, and we will wondering how come there are only 2 or 3 major merchants setting the price.

I work in the motor trade selling the car parts. Many of you will have shopped in the chain i work for (not naming any names) But the profit expectations are pretty horrific and shocking. I get in trouble i sell something that takes less then 60% profit, thats just parts the labour is based on what model vehicle you own. I.e if you own a vehicle towards the top end of the range you pay £50 an hour more labour then someone who owns a cheaper vehicle.

When i first started i questioned this and the companies opinion is 'if someone can afford a better car they can afford to pay more in labour'

Is that 60% Gross Profit, Nett Profit or Markup?
