He's right about the battery capacity. New EVs lose most of the 6-8% in first year or two, then plateau out for years. Only if the battery develops a fault will you see dramatic drop off in range.

My wife's Tesla still has over 90% at 6 years old and over 110k miles

I have found two possible cars, both same make and model.

Car 1 - 2021 reg, 25,000 miles, SoH battery 94.50%. Asking price £10,900
Car 2 - 2022 reg, 15,000 miles, SoH battery 96.50%. Asking price £12,000

I am leaning towards the lower mileage and better battery health of car two but could be persuaded on car 1 as it is over a grand cheaper.

Any thoughts?

What’s your budget? I would get the best one I can afford, rather than save money for the sake of it.

Both within budget. I would tend to agree and lean towards the one in the better condition. If there was quite a big price gap I may be tempted to take a cheaper deal but at a grand I think you may be right that the condition is worth the extra money.

I would go for the first one.

Assuming they are the same then personally I would go for the newer car, especially if both within budget.

Battery degradation isn’t linear.

Depending on what make and model it is, it's worth checking whether any major physical or technical changes were made between 2021 and 2022. That was a period of rapid development by a lot of manufacturers so you may find that the 2022 has things fixed or changed that aren't on the 2021 model.

Yes, but just found out the decision has been made for me. Car no. 2 has now sold. Cant believe it, noticed on the Auto Trader date stamp that they have had that car since April 2024. I spotted it yesterday and it has sold the today!
