Not totally applicable to EVs. Don't leave your removable towbar on your car for a year. We've been using it periodically over the year, so got lazy in taking it off Inbetween.
Happily I have an electric pop-out towbar which tucks under the car when not in use.

According to this report Tesla used prices are falling:

Good to see used prices falling. Demand has been so far ahead of supply they had to come down at some point. There are even some new cars available below the £30k mark narrowing the gap to ICE vehicles.

I guess some form of tax was inevitable as the revenue from fuel duty declined. I can’t imagine VED generates that much but fuel tax must be 10s of billions. I think the debate on how this is passed on to EVs after 2030 is just starting.

Clearly, Fuel Duty pulls in more but the VED take is far from trivial:

In 2022-23 we estimate that VED will raise £7.2 billion. That represents 0.7 per cent of all receipts and is equivalent to around £250 per household and 0.3 per cent of national income.

In 2022-23, we expect fuel duties to raise £26.2 billion. That would represent 2.7 per cent of all receipts, and is equivalent to around £930 per household and 1.0 per cent of national income.

Had another interesting EV experience. Went to the New Forest for a few days to visit the in-laws for Christmas.
We decided not to use the granny charger to to cost of electricity (and the fact that my father in law won't let us give him money for it).
Arrived with 68% left, not too shabby.

My wife went to Southampton on Boxing Day - no EV slots in the car park, so no top up. Set of back with 48% charge. Thus my prediction for return was 16% charge. The only difference is it was raining and at night . I spent a lot of the drive comparing Sat-nav mileage predication with the car's predicted mileage capacity. At one point the difference was down to 10 miles. A long 50mph section of roadworks helped getting it back up, and then some judicious driving at 60mph with the other slow traffic helped bring it back out to 30 miles differential. In the end, I got home with 10% charge left.

Not sure if it was a combination of rain / headlights making the difference, or if the car just seems to calculate electricity usage differently as you get towards empty.

On the plus side, for future visits there is now a Shell garage about 5 mins drive from the in-laws which has a set of 50kwh chargers (79p per kwh though) - so handy for a quick refill!

OK - quick question...

I got a towbar bike rack for Christmas, but owing to stupidity on my part, got the wrong one, or at least not the one I intended.
I intended to get the Buzzrack Eazzy 3 (16.6kg). However due to the aforementioned stupidity, what I actually asked for was the Buzz Rack E-Hornet 3 (18.8kg).

Now Roofbox will swap the bike rack without a problem, but won't refund the difference (£15) between the E-Hornet and the Eazzy. On discussion with my wife, she asked why I didn't go for the Eazzy 4 (19.8kg) as there are 4 of us in the family. Now one reason is that she seldom cycles. The other reason was it was more expensive and 3kg heavier. Her thought is that as we will otherwise be down £15, it would be better to get the capacity and pay the extra £40.

So to get to the point, does anyone know whether carrying the extra 3.2kg going to make any significant difference to range?

I could of course keep the E-Hornet but would need to spend another tenner on a 7pin to 13pin adapter, which make swapping seem better again...

Serious question - sorry if it is dumb.

What do you do should an EV run out of juice a long way from a charging point?

If 3.2kg is going to make that much difference to your range that you are anxious about it, then surely EV's are not for you otherwise you are going to agonise every time you are going to the supermarket & woah betold SWMBO who wants to take a suitcase alway for the weekend.

It'd be the same thing as if your car had broken down. But all you need to get it running again is an electric socket so just don't let yourself get into that situation.

I can't see that 3kg is going to make a difference on a car that's knocking on for 2 tonnes ?
It's the same with bikes isn't it - aero is more important than weight.
