Obviously everyone is different so there might not be an alternative, but you won't know if you don't ask your urologist.

On the other hand, if it works........

Good point. I'm on open access to the urology department so I'll call them tomorrow.

Thanks.

Mine are in a time release capsule.

Are yours in a tablet? If not, how do you manage to portion it out?

I have wondered what minimum dose would work for me.

Currently 400mcg.

I'm taking tamsulosin in capsule form. It's simple to open the capsule, remove most of the contents and then pop the top back on.

Just to be clear I'm absolutely not suggesting anyone else should try this.

Don't worry, I'm not trying it. So no chance of me sueing you. ^_^

I have often just wondered at the arbitrary 400/800 no stops inbetween dosing.

Tbh, after 24 hours of 400 I am pretty much ready for my next capsule.

I've been advised my date for HoLEP is fast approaching.

Anyone had this? I've read all the info from the NHS and it sounds OK, but I'd be interested in any personal experiences.

Well I had the call this morning; did I want Holep on 23rd September? They have a cancellation.

Fortunately my mouth said " Yes" before my brain engaged and thought of a hundred reasons to back out.

Pre-op and observations tomorrow then I'm on for the procedure in ten days.

I'm nervous; this will be the first surgery of my life.

Yes, bloody well hurts that pain. Mine lasted a few days too.

Sorry @All uphill

If they are put in right they won't be painful once out good nurses know how to do it right. It's still sad that many don't even use local when putting them in. Mrs 73 always make's sure anyone she's training or signing off use's it.

I had BHP for 10 years plus and was taking tamsulosin for 5 years. Probably made 25% improvement but effectiveness decreased with age. 6 months ago i had a TURP operation, transformed much of my life. I sleep much better, i dont worry about going out and getting caught short.
I can pee like i did in my 20s. NHS were superb. Im 63 years old.

I was trained to self-catheterise a year ago and while I can do it, when needed, it's been a powerful incentive to manage my liquid intake and output so that I don't need to.

I've had two catheters after two kidney op's to remove a large stone.

Blooming uncomfortable things when being removed!

Not as bad as having a ureteral stent removed, though.

The syringe of anaesthetic gel up the old chap was bad enough but jeez, when that stent came out... ouch!

I dreaded peeing for a few days afterwards... felt like someone had lit a match at the end of the poor fella!

The trials of being an (older) man. 😂
