Well, the 2022-2023 parliamentary session has been and gone and they're still not legal, so all he has left is indeed the hearsay.

Considering there will be a general election by mid January 2025 at the very latest, I can't see the current lot pushing any legislation through on something this minor (to most) unless they think thre's a vote for them in it.

On the way home last night, spotted two young girls probably aged about 12-13 out riding about on a Voi hire escooter.
Parents must be hiring them as toys for their kids to play on....

I've just had a brilliant idea for how to regulate them. No need to faff around worrying about motor power ratings, just slap a max wheel size of 4" on them.

I think seeing one of those 100km/h monsters with 4" wheels could be quite funny. Not to mention quite a bumpy ride.

A 6" metal spike protruding out the handlebars in the direction of the riders throat will have a sobering effect on the diligence they bring to bear when riding.

Well, there was that 'fashion trend' a while back for push scooters with wheels the diameter of a 10p piece, anyone remember that?.

A long while back. I had one in the early 00s, the one time I used it the wheels disintegrated the first trip out and it went in the bin.

Had an escooter near miss last night on the old commute home. Just going up the B2B railway path and entered the short tunnel going under the road at Lawrence Hill. Its had new red asphalt put down, a nice white dashed line separating the lanes and central bollards at either end to stop local nutters trying to drive up it (seriously, there was once a burnt out car up on it in Easton). Imagine my reaction upon entering the tunnel just as three guys on bikes came into it from the other end....being overtaken by yoof on speeding escooter who went around the bollard into my side of the lane. Twit narrowly avoided crashing into me (luckily have strong brakes) but sped on as if nowt happened. Foolish people on escooters don't seem to understand no overtaking on bends, hills or tunnel entrances!.

Voi are packing up in Bristol....and coming to London!. Poor Londoners, you'll have to deal with more transport for the bone idle who crave convenience.

I took the bus between Kings Cross and Waterloo stations several weeks ago and was surprised by the plethora of bike / scooter/ Ebike brands. They can't all be profitable, especially as money is no longer cheap to borrow.

AFAIK
Scooters: Dott, Lime, Tier, with Voi coming soon I think.
E-Bikes: Human Forest, Tier, Lime

Plus the olde fangled Santander bikes that have docks so don't end up obstructing the pavements.

I know that Lime nearly went bust when they were part of Uber. I can't see that the situation is sustainable.
