I’m in France currently, loads of E scooters, hire and private. Used incredibly considerately, pretty much all adults, male and female, almost no idiot male teens.
Frankly, the road cyclists are more of a menace on the bike paths here in Nice than the E-scooterists (I’ve just finished an E-bike tour)

Sadly, what works well abroad rarely does so in the UK. Give the great British public inch and they invariably help themselves to a mile.

On my commute home the other night came across a father & young daughter - estimated to be about 6/7 years old - both riding private escooters up the B2B Railway Path. There you go, responsible parenting teaching the next generation how to be reliant on (illegal) motorised transport in a environment intended for non-motorised traffic.

Only doing half a job, he needs to be teaching her to discard her litter as she goes, so that she can join the next generation of litter louts ;)

On the way home from visiting my mum yesterday I passed a lad aged about 10 on a fairly "off road" looking one of those with a seat. Doing about 18-20. On the pavement.

At the weekend I was making my way along a bit of pavement in London. There was a bit of a snarl up and a guy on an electric scooter came through. All done quite politely and amicably but I heard a person say "he should be on the road". I was tempted to pipe up with "Well, actually unless it's part of one of the London hire schemes, then ..."

But I thought better of it

It wasn't. But I have seen Lime scooters in London. (Lying across the pavement next to Human Forest bikes). Dockless schemes are pure evil. Stupid names like "human forest" pretending they are part of a sustainable transport solution when really they are just a private company making a profit from blocking pavements.

Yep, got buzzed by one of those the other week. I take a steep(ish) off ramp up the B2B path so I normally push he bike up. There's a drop of about 10-12ft as you climb up the cutting and a railing. This idiot came right up behind me at speed, almost collided with my rear wheel where the path is just about wide enough for one bike.

Voi - now lost contract here in Bristol - seemed to have a fly tipping policy of just dump 'em when you've finished riding.

That's how dockless schemes work. It's how they are supposed to work. It's built in to the model. The whole of the pavement outside Charing Cross the other evening was just a tangled sea of Lime and Human Forest bikes. The scooters are still relatively uncommon, I've only seen a couple of Lime ones so far.

I've reported dumped Voi escooters on the Railway Path, one in the road at the end of a bridge tunnel (nicely left 1m from the kerb). WestScoot, the new firm here, is supposedly building parking bays.
