Of course it is, but lack of basic chemical understanding - and of basic physics and biology! - and how it applies to everyday life is very often the reason why household, cooking and garden 'stuff' fails for people ...

Making bread is difficult. Did you check the yeast was alive, and keep it happy? Alive? What do you mean?
Why did my houseplant die? I watered it every day!
It probably drowned - what sort of plant was it? A cactus - I thought they were easy to look after ...
etc etc etc

Mmmm, yes, my cactii keeled over.

But that's because Madam Poppy has a penchant for piddling in the flower pots...

With you on all the rest of that tho :okay:

The list included their own brands.
I didn't think they did much in their own brands of washing stuff or nappies; the pans and household hardware which students buy, though, are mainly their own brands because they're dead cheap (and I've had a Wilko's brand slow cooker for almost 10 years and it's still reliable ...); they only do a very few items in brands such as Russell Hobbs, Tower etc, and never seem to have many in stock.
So, I don't know. I was in Wilkos last week but only to buy a USB thingamajig reader; noticed lots of students with girls buying folding laundry drying racks and cushions, and lads buying plastic chests of drawers ...

Still no queues at the stations in and around Fort William but at 146p for diesel I’m not surprised.
A bargain compared to the price I saw at Cairn Lodge services on the M74 yesterday, as I drove past (something I like to do with motorway services - and KEEP driving past the miserable, overpriced, dirty, horrible places that they are!) who were selling unleaded at 152ppl, and a few pence more for diesel. Locally it has gone up 2p per litre in the last few days, now at 138ppl.. Haven't seen queues anywhere, nor closed forecourts, since day 2 of the "crisis".

I wonder how much Southwaite services are charging? For some reason they have always thought that a premium of about 20% is a fair mark up for their special brand of fuel. Nobbers. Far better pulling off the M6 at junction 42 and using the Golden Fleece (!!) petrol station just off the roundabout at the top of the slip road. Expect a lot of HGV's though, but they do have separate pumps for cars. There is also a Tesco petrol station just off the M6 at junction 43. If this post has cost Southwaite just one customer then I will sleep better at night, the robbing bar stewards.

Even better, pull of the northbound carriageway at junction 42 and turn left down the A6 and fill up at the petrol station on the right after a quarter of a mile. Cheaper than the Golden Fleece

Thanks, I didn't know about that one. Only knew of the Golden Fleece from my time driving HGV's..

I like Wilko. There’s a decent range of stuff at reasonable prices. They treat their staff well too, which is not always the case in retail.

They're currently cheaper on wet cat food than Zooplus, so I've topped up the girls' stash, and they're the only place locally I can get liquid soap flakes. Plus their LED lightbulbs are both better and cheaper than the ones in Tesco.

A useful place to have for mid-range tools and general hardware as well.

They also have small boxes of Citric acid, 5 litre containers of demineralised water for the steam iron, washing the windows etc, and of course the makings of home brew kits for the forthcoming “ Beeraggeddon “ when people think there’s going to be a beer shortage 🍻🍻

Yep, which is why I like them too.
They've been using the same Dutch bulb supplier for half a century or so - so they must have a good relationship with them! They have an excellent returns policy too. I always look there for 'stuff' first. Kitchen, garden, cleaning implements and now stuff for the bike - a bit of common sense and judgement about what you choose, and you can't go wrong. It's not top-of-the-range stuff, but most of it's mid range brands or slightly better, at fair to bargain prices. Over the years, I've also been very happy with their 'own brand' stuff.

They also do all sorts of interesting and useful bits and pieces for all sorts of purposes, and at very reasonable prices.

Local one low in that section as well.
"Beeraggeddon" may well come true.

The beery stuff is lost on me, alas... :cuppa:

The only product I've had from there which really *isn't* up to scratch are their "artists" acrylic paints. They're a bit stingy on the pigment front, so the coverage isn't good compared to Daler or Liquitex paints. They're ok for the kiddies, but not much else.
