Because people are now constantly topping it up. It means the point in which it settles down is being pushed further down the line.
Yes - but they are travelling about the same as usual - so even though they are going to a pump far more often - they are stilldoing teh same miles in the same circumstances so will be using the same number of litres
so why is the number of litres being dispensed 3 times normal???

I just can;t see what I am missing - assuming the figures are accurate:wacko:

And the massacre begins with a unbranded tanker,
It's not unbranded. It has "Hoyer" written on the nearside door of the cab. They do contract work for BP, Shell, and others...

Ah yes, them what caused the panic buying in the first place, out of interest anyone seen any military doing deliveries yet, I’ve not seen one, despite travelling from West Yorkshire to Tyneside, Northumberland, County Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and down into Leicestershire, seen plenty of fuel tankers with civilian drivers in them though, I suspect another porky pie from Boris

Mrs D works in a school - the government have told schools this week to stock up on non perishable school dinner nosh. Im not sure if they said "don't panic", but by now that hardly matters.

Unless people have elastic tanks, once they have topped up the first time they can only then add fuel at the rate they are using it.

Whether they top up at 50% or 90% makes only a negligible (weight-related) difference to the amount of fuel they consume.

Unless there are still clowns driving way beyond any normal sensible journey simply to fill up. Locally it's been car free Friday, not sure how effective but some roads did seem a touch quite; maybe they should be rolled out nationally.

People are fulling up cars that they might otherwise only fill up periodically. While fuel tanks aren't elastic that creates an eleasticity jn demandm and it canntake some week for that to recover as people ultimately still burn much the same amount.

Weve also seen much container filling, people with jerricans, a dozen fuel cans, even wastebins and vases.

Until everyone resumes their normal buying pattern, and does so long enough for demand to re-regulate itself at previous levels, the problem will continue, although the longer time goes by the rules of spatial comptibility start to regulate the matter instead. It surely cant be long until the latter starts to bite, and has probably already done so in much of the UK.

Do you not like Cushelle, because thats what I bought?

I hope to God that you never get stricken with a chronic and serious colon condition and then have to endure panic buying tw@ts.

My present condition means I'm reliant on the car for short but regular journeys to the hospital, so a serious shortage of fuel would put me in genuine difficulty.

I suspect another porky pie from Boris

The first service drivers were pictured at a refinery/depot in the south east.

As far as I can gather, their efforts are being concentrated on that patch as the one with the most serious problems.

Ok. Let’s say we can supply 20m cars to fill up in a week. 20m need to fill their car up. A different 20m next week. However, if the latter 20m, who are only half full, also decide to fill up on week 1 then we need enough fuel to fill 20m plus half full 10m in week 1. That is 50% more fuel needed in week one. It comes off what is needed in week 2, sure. But if there’s not enough capacity for the extra 20m wanting to half fill their cars then the garages run dry.

The problem is capacity and moving from reasonably steady weekly averages to peaks and troughs. As the garages are not used, nor able, to supply such swings, you get empty garages.

The other half (who does all the driving in our household) happened to fill up the car the day before this all seemed to kick off - think I posted that in one of the early pages of this thread; but she is now starting run low again. However all the garages in our town (and there are at least seven, plus another 2-3 on the roads into it) are either out of petrol, or if they do get a delivery, the news quickly gets round on the FaceApps and the WhatBooks and they are immediately swarmed by motorists and the pumps are sucked dry before the end of the day (presuming you could get through the inevitable queues of course).

Yet less than 20 miles down the road in Milton Keynes, her work colleagues who commute in from there are reporting that all garages are fully stocked and there are no queues whatsoever, so I guess we'll be taking a trip there this weekend (luckily she's got about 30 miles left in the tank).

Cushelle is the bog-roll-of-choice here chez Casa Reynard. :okay:

I do need to go for fuel next week at some point, as I'm down to 1/4 of a tank, and living out in the boonies, I don't tend to like going much lower than that. Will probably do my usual "chuck £20 in", although what with the price rise, that might end up being £30.

Also need to get another can to dump in the mower. Not much grass cutting left for this year, but I use the mower to tow a trailer to haul firewood. One gallon should last me the winter, though.
