the Late Keith Waterhouse ( excellent writer) summed it up nicely.

he never stopped smoking or gave up smoking because he was rubbish as stopping or giving up. he just decided he was going to start not smoking .

well done to those who have come this far. it gets easier but there will be some big temptations ahead.

Ah dont worry about that dream smokes dont count, I gave up 4 years ago and sometimes I wake up after dreaming about having a smoke and to be honest its a lovely feeling.

However the reality is quite different coughing and stinking ................ no thanks xx(

I used to smoke in my dreams. Never had a cigarette in real life, though.

13th day and all going well...
I'm really not sure if i'm suffering from a constant low level craving (like something constantly lightly pushing on my chest), or whether thats the remainder of the chest infection.
Either way, todays been a breeze, no overwhelming urge to smoke at all....they still smell nice, i still look at them and think...hmmmm, wouldnt that be nice...but no great desire to actually light one up.

Its all good at the moment.

Well done.

They still smell nice to me, but i now find that i can smell the smoker a mile away, and stale smoke is bloody awful.

I used to smoke but stopped, and this thread makes interesting reading. It's just hard work, and an incentive really helps. I didn't need a new bike so had a holiday on the proceeds, then another one on the proceeds after that. (n+1 ?)

On the other hand Pete, I do think people like you and gbb (and me many years ago) are thoroughly antisocial.

You've spent years subsidising my taxes, helping to save me from having to pay my fair share of the running costs of the country. Now you've decided to stop. Did you ask me if I minded? No you didn't. Did you think of the harm you'd be doing to all the essentials that rely on your voluntary extra tax payments, like road maintenance, the health service, and so on? No you didn't.

if you insist on carrying on in this way, and worse still encourage others to do the same, then the deficit will go on as before, the extra tax revenue Osborne is trying to raise won't come in, just think of the consequences!

All the best with it, it can be done, just make sure that little devil on your shoulder doesn't lull you into a false sense of security before pouncing on you when you least expect it!

Just don't become the evangelical ex-smoker type - it's very boring.

well done for quitting!! I quite nearly 2 years ago - and its the best thing I ever did - my health improved, I dont stink of stale fags, my hair and skin now fab, teeth nice, saving dosh...the list goes on. I gave up using 4mg of Nicotine orange flavoured gum then weened down to 2mg and then off the gum on week 4.The craving is a physical sympton, but its a load of shoot when people say it calms them down - smoking makes you MORE stressful,:cursing: in this day and age when you stress out about when and where you can smoke, out in crappy weather etc....not worth it!
Good luck - you are doing really well - keep it up!

15th day, no great desire for a ciggie. Its still all in my head, thinking about them, but its waning and i can quite happily chat with the guys in the smoking shelter without getting the urge.
